Is it really camping?

After being kicked from a server for what I was told was 'camping' I was a bit anoyed considering I was holding a sniper rifle.

I could understand more if the only weapons available were a P90 or Mac-10, but to give someone a sniper rifle and then kick them from the server (or even moan) when they get into a good tactical position and wait for their target to pass is pathetic!

cs_assault is a good example. As a terrorist, holding the hostages in a secure area, the best thing you can do is dig in and wait for the CT's to try and rescue the hostages. Is that camping

Are there any server admins here that agree with kicking people from their server for what they call camping I would like to hear your point.

The phrase 'camping' was used before the days of C-S when the games were less tactical and we all round around the levels shooting at everthing that moved with little skill, and the 'camper' would usually stay near the biggest weapon or similar goodies so as to always have the advantage.

Camping is a valid tactic as long as you are actually helping the team.

What server where u kicked from? I would only ever kick for tking and cheating, anything is not a kickable offense.

I think its a matter of if your doing your mission objective or not. I've your a terrorist and your mission is to defend the hostages... camping to defend the hostages is fine. However, if the CT's started camping then thats wrong... since theyre not trying to complete their mission objectives, and then it just relys on who gets bored of sitting there first. (and it isnt fair on all the people who are sitting there waiting the whole 5 mins or so for the round to start just coz a lame CTer is camping. The T's are just doing theyre job if theyre defending something.)

Here's the lowdown folks. Ask yourself these questions when playing:

Are you playing a clan match?
If YES then anything is acceptable and nothing can be classed as lame, apart from HE spamming your base (see Italy)

Are you playing on a public server?
If YES then don't be a cunt making everyone wait 5 mins for you to faff around with your gay sniper rifle only to be shot and killed with a knife 5 secs before the round timeout like a complete moron

The crux of the issue is shit players (ok ok, new?) that discover they get half decent (ok ok, shit?) kill/death ratios by hiding away with a sniper rifle. If it's a clan match and the results actually count then fine, camp. If it's a public server, lose the rifle (unless your team is being walked all over and some sniping is the only way to bring some balance back) and actually practice with a proper fucking gun.

ANY cunt can use a sniper rifle, it's the least skill demanding weapon in the game.

God Almighty, people whinging about camping annoy me nearly as much as people whinging about cheating. If you dont like camping, then play another game. Even all the online guides advise you to camp, its fundamental to CS.

If CT's camp a bomb site, or T's camp a hostage area, to me this is fine. A lot of the maps such as assault, 747, siege, cbble, estate, italy etc are designed with camping in mind. Thats not to say they cant be played any other way, but camping is the principal tactic for 1 team in most of the maps. The challenge of the game is to work as a team to try and break down tight defences.

The only instances where I do think its inappropriate are where someone is the last t left on a de_ map and dont try to find/plant the bomb, or CT's who dont try to rescue hostages. I prefer to think of that as not playing the spirit of the game rather than camping tho, and if this is what you were consistently doing then you deserve to be kicked.

The other day, playing cbble, there was one T who would consistently camp the tower just to the right of the T spawn point. It didnt matter that he was the only one left, that he knew the bomb was dropped somewhere; he would not budge. Each round was lasting 5 minutes as he had the entrances covered and was virtually impregnable. He got kicked and rightly so.

The pump gun shottie takes real skill, sure you can get some one shot kills but more often than not your blasting away for about 3, and long range it sucks.

The only problem wiv the auto shotty, is killing is easy but your soon outta ammo. You gotta be more conservative rather than letting blast at more than 1 person.

There's a reason why so called camping is soooooo anoying in CS, and halflife mods in general, it's because the game is sooo slow. Picking somebody of with a cs Sig or awp, is a peice of piss. Same goes for the tfc sniper wep. Back in the day running around with a rail gun was a skill, hitting a guy going at full whack on a strafe jump while you were going at the same pace wasn't half as easy as it is in cs/tfc. As such nearly any numbnut with half a brain can snipe or camp in cs, thats why it's soo fecking anoying Even though, there's no such thing as camping in a team game. Bottom line is, it's all about the balance of the game, the play models move to slow, in relation to how easy it is to just double tap the mouse button and kill somebody. Imho thats why the game fails in my eyes, you have to remember it's a computer game, not the real jobbie. Imho it's nothing like the real thing, so making certain parts of the game realistic, and others not so, just unblances the game too much.

Yeah. I think what most people seem to forget is that games are supposed to be FUN. Sitting around while two teams are camping while may be ok for Clan games... on public servers you want to have FUN and for the most part it isn't fun at all.

To use a football analogy, it's like calling a goalkeeper a camper and complaining their always camping in their goal and stopping goals going in.

The only time I don't think it's acceptable to camp is when you're the last remaining member of your team on a public server, then it gets boring for everyone else.

Just a quick reminder that Q3, which is a mainly deathmatch style game, and CS, which is a team based counter-terrorism mod, are two entirely different things. When I see on the news a story about how a SWAT team defeated some terrorist by bouncing around with a rail gun then I'll shut up but until then

Dill it's easy to sound bite people. But if you were to quote the whole lot, it's all part of the bigger picture, eg the speed of the game. Like i say why limit the speed of the models, it's not as if the game has any relation to a real life situation, trust me it's nothing like it, iv'e ran through half the shit that CS tries to simulate in the game, very little of it actually happens the way CS plays Unless you have been there it's kinda hard to disagree, but im sure you will find a way. Just quote a single line for instance, then make a completely different reply I was never trying to compare quake to cs, just point out that so called camping in cs is far more anoying, because any gimp can do it

I love camping. The only time camping is wrong is if you are the last one on your team and you still sit there. If you are the last one getup and do something. The dead people dont want to see you sitting there.
