You A: Look at(example) a woman with those robes/mask(muslim i believe?) on, on the street and think "cool". and B: don't judge people, clothes/outlook/etc because they are of certain race/religion?

Just an interesting topic really, is there such a thing as invert-racist and is it racism?

the way I see it is that Racism is hating someone because they are of a certain background/religion.
Others may look at it like, the singling out of an individual due to race/religion etc is inherently racist, but the truth of the matter is, its no more racist to point out someone is wearing a robe that covers her face, than it is facist to point at me and say "he's wearing a hat".

If that makes any sense.

Who talked anything about "fancying"? Jesus...

I was talking about, not judging someone BECAUSE they are of a "politically sensitive" race/religion or thinking that something is cool BECAUSE it's of etc etc.

No need for insults either...troll off won't you.

And fyi, if you odn't like a topic, don't post there. Some might actually think it's interesting to talk about.

Yeah racism is clear as a topic, but wouldn't you be singling someone out in a positive way too?

I am a little confused what youre trying to say Tohtori.

Are you trying to say for example, we have employed this women because she is a) a women and b) as muslim, when the none religious man over there would do the job just as well?

i believe in positive discrimination, when you are conscious of saying something due to someones colour then you are being racist as you are still seeing people as different.

I mock everyone and treat everyone the same. I make black jokes to my black mates and they make Scottish Jokes to me. I think that is showing that i am not racist as i will treat everyone the same and i'm not making a point in saying things, or more importantly not saying things to people due to race

Just for you:

Is it racist to think positively of someone because of their race? As in, invert racism.

Hopefully that's more clear.

I think we are way too PC and sensitive in this country today. I am not saying go back to the dark ages or have open racist remarks ala Manning and Garnett (sp) but we should relax a little.

Most of the PC bollocks thats spewed out now is by white people with no common sense!

I have white religious and none religious friends, I have black religious and none religious friends and also asain religious and none religious friends. I know who I can have a laugh and a joke and who not to.

Yeah, different topic though, but yes, PC has gone mad. Not to mention other areas.

The point of the question was though, another example, would it be racist to say "Black people are cool!"

You know? It's singling out someone because of their race, but not in an offensive or derogatory manner.

Now, it depends on what context I think, doesnt it? Hmmm probabley not no.

Or does it? Black People are cool in terms of Rap music?

I shall also take back my crap thread remark ;)

Hehe, takes a bit to grow on my topics ;)

Aye, i think so too. "Black people know how to do rap", shouldn't be racist, but i'm thinking, is it? Racking my brain with all sorts of issues deriving from this.

Is it racist already to notice a person of certain religion/race? Especially in a white dominated country as a white person?

Why is racism towards whites tolerated?

Etc...it all seems very iffy and case sensitive.

tbh, how can you NOT notice if someone is black/white/yellow/wearing a turbin?

of course it isnt racist to notice that, the only way you couldnt is if youre blind.

in which case the blind are the only none racist people, going purely in looking at someone.

What sparx and shearer said, its gone too far.

I always used to associate racism with Hitler and the holocaust, I didnt realise until I was older that it can mean any sort of differentiation(positive or negitive) between two people based on thier racial or cultural traits.

I personally believe that racism in terms of the way it used to be in america with segregaton etc is what should be hunted out and abolished, I think that racism in terms of "you black bastard!" is still a bad thing, but I do not think it should be - in an ideal world - necessarily all that much worse than "you fat bastard!" or "you ginger bastard!"

I actually feel bad for just typing that phrase, but its not fair that there is discrimination going on in both ways but it is unrecognised because everyone is so afriad of the whole issue. How can things like the MOBO's be allowed?

They shouldnt, plain and simple, or, if they are allowed, then responding to an insult from a coloured person with "fuck off you <insert racial slang here>" should not be any worse than using another, non-racial derogatory(sp?) term.

It has to be equal - either we're exactly the same and music of black origin is indistinguishable from any other music, or we're different and using an insult based on the physical difference - in the same way as "you fat bastard" etc - is no longer taboo.

All of that said, I think that bullying someone for any difference - race, hair colour or weight - is something that should never be tolerated, I was bullied in highschool, yet I think that if I was black the school would've taken the issue alot more seriously. How is that equal rights?

bit of a rant but plah, this sort of thing needs it, and I have time to kill and I'm booorreeddd :D

I know exactkly what you mean.

It also does my head in the other way round. You may of recently on the news seen the lad who was killed in Dewsbury. On the BBC they went with
"17 year old boy stabbed in Dewbury" or whatever happend, now thats ok ITV went with

"Muslim boy killed in Dewsbury"

WHY? Why mention his religion? There is no need at all!

everyone associates muslims with brown people so it makes it a bit more contreversial.

youd never hear "jewish/christian/mormon boy stabbed" because they are usually white.

No its not racist not judging people based on how they're dressed.

Today I had a long conversation with a black man. Does that make me racist because I spoke to him ?

This is taking things tooooooooooooooooooo far

Stop being paranoid ! Not everyone's racist. Not every single thought is racist.

Doctor Lamp recommends a tablespoon of common sense and some Forchissakes ointment :)

If you hate Muslims, Jews, black people, and everyone who doesn't dress like you, fine. Similarly, if you accept people for who they are, also fine. I don't see the need why it has to be discussed over and over and over and over and over and over again

So can we lock up and get drunk now ?

Personally I dont see anything racist about it at all if you think something about someone is wearing.

Racism to me is judging people on their ethnic(sp?) background, and thats it.

And it is no matter who you judge due to their racial features (Be it White, African, Latino, Asian, etc) that you judge on their looks, it is equally bad.

Judging someone on their CHOISE of religion (religion is a choise, not something you HAVE to be) is quite alright.
If people can't live with being judged for the religious belief, then they should carefully consider why they believe something that can't stand to be judged upon.

"White men can't jump" = not racist
"Black men can't swim" ... wonder what would happen if that film came out.

It's human nature to think of people differently when you first see them; first impressions are something inherant in all of us, it's just the way you act on them that determines your nature. How many people afterall go up and talk to lovely ladies and then think, hold on a second, I'll go talk to that not so nice looking lady over there because she might be just as interesting. It just doesn't work that way.

The basic grasp of racism would be thinking of someone negatively because of their origins or colour of their skin. Why would inverse racism ever be there? The very fact that this is being brought up shows further problems with the way that prejudice has gone way too far these days.

Simple issue really, if I see a white guy with a burberry cap sitting almost vertically on the top of his head dressed in a shellsuit I immediately know... sorry, I mean THINK he's a twat. No two ways about it, I can't help it but apparently taking the piss out of chavs isn't racist. I mean the word chav doesn't get you banned on these boards for example but... well... others do. Talking in perspective, if I see a black person head to toe in mimic gold with a golfers hat sideways, I also immediately think they're a twat but that isn't socially acceptable.

Imagine if I laugh at the chav, it's all a giggle. If I then laughed at the black guy dressed like that, it's suddenly racist. This whole thing has gone way too far. I'm far from a racist, sexist, hair-colouristist or whatever, I just cannot stand it when that card is abused for situations which it isn't needed. It's a shame really because we're still living in the most socially accepting world ever and these sorts of issues should be behind us but they aren't. In some cases racism is still a problem, in others it's the complete reverse where it's played to someones unneeded advantage. Sadly there is no answer to it all though.

For now, if you don't like someone and they happen to be a different skin colour to yourself, people will always be thinking "Is he racist?", similarly with other issues of difference. Ooh, maybe unless that said person is white, straight, non-disabled etc etc, you get my point...
