the more extreme supercars? like ferrari and maserati and all those cars?

had a discussion with a mate about that. he says it is, i say it isnt anymore. it may have been prestige in having those cars some 15-20 years ago when there wasent millions of ppl that owned one, be them old supercars or the "next gen".

so is it still prestige in owning one or have it been downgraded to the volvo station wagon class? :)

imo its just a luxury nowadays. to many ppl that have the cash to buy one kinda kills the feeling when u see one nowadays.

Ferrari sold 1,321 cars last year..so yes it is when compared with the new car sales of say the vauxhall corsa.

yes they dont sell a whole lot of them compared to the cars us mere mortals can afford. but counting the cars they have sold in the last 10-15 years (of wich most of them are probably still being driven, and can be classed as supercars) we probably would come up with a pretty decent number.

they arent in any way "rare" nowadays. maybe brand by brand they are, but supercars as a whole sure isnt. 10 years ago when u saw a brand new ferrari or lamborgini u almost ran after it to get a better look at it. now u see them often enough to just go "cool car".

i mean, its lost that " oh my god" when u see one now.

i'm not talking about a select few brands of cars. but the whole supercar industry of brands from the mid 80's when they were really really popular, and forward. (yes, even Koenigsegg, as crap as it looks)

i would say its prestige to own a brand new one, though i spose technically is less prestige and more 'look how much money i have...'

rofl ^^ I have to drive a FIAT right now and even though the car is rather cute, I wouldn't buy one for real if I had more money :p

But tbh, I don't like all those super expensive cars like Ferrari or so. My personal favourite is still Porsche. Why? Because the cars look nice and the name Porsche is like.....German history? =) The cars are good, but they're not THAT "oh look at me" imho.

they already test drove it, there are only 300 going to be made :)

yes they test drove it, but bugatti isnt giving them a veyron, all tests they do have to be done with a borrowed car from a private owner

yes but then we are down to one car/brand only and then i might agree. but we aint so i wont ;)

i'm talking about supercars as a whole, not a single model ;) hell if the number of cars made had any say in it then Koenigsegg would be in the top 5 as they only made 4 or 5 so far iirc, and thats just not right....

Yes, only cocks buy Ferrari's. Actually only cocks buy sports car's in general. Its a hey look at me buy imo (I hate flash people)

People with money and class buy nice luxury comfortable cars, that you can fit more than 2 people into.

EDIT, Actually I think being flash if you are under 25 is acceptable.

I'd say seeing a Gallardo, Murciélago,(or even a diablo), Maybach or a Shelby GT Cobra500(yes i saw one at a car gathering) is a rare sight in anyone's eyes, even these days. It's more then prestige, it's "Let me shoot you in the face"-ige :D

Hell, a countach would be hellacool to see, sadly it's not around that much anymore.

Though usually ferrari is just a bit boring :)

Its prestigious to own a classic/new car, not a second hand model so i dont think that its any less than it ever was. The difference is however there are more people that can afford them now than there used to be so they are now relatively common.

not really people with money and class buy a big car and have someone else drive them
When they want to have fun they buy a supercar

unless ofc they are someone who hasn't really earned what they have like footballers, singers etc etc

so what ever interests you have, you should probably just forget them and get over them. they do mean nothing after all.

mojo, i think you are terribly wrong there.

when i grow up and earn lots of money, my dream is to buy a STi WRX 2.5 litre impreza. not for posing, but its because its been my dream to own that car since i started using it on GT when it first came onto the PSX :p

Ofc it's prestige and I would buy a Ferrari and show off too if I have the money. I'm not affraid to admit it, i'm very materalistic anyway.
