Hey, so i have a job (ofc) and i work 7AM til 5:30PM ... Normal 10 and a half hour days.

Although, my boss deducts 30mins for my dinner. Which is no reason to whine. Then the guy puts on my wage slip that i'm working 47 hours a week at £5 an hour, if i'm not mistaken the minimum wage is £5.05 an hour.

So if its right, he's ripping me the fuck off, due to the fact i work more hours than he's putting on my wage slip. Can anybody shine some light on this? Thanks!

Well first question would be: What does your contract say about your pay? If it's x amount of cash/hour, then it's that and no other can do.

If there's NO pay section in your job contract, then well...you're kinda f*cked.

Ok, but isn't minimum wage the lowest you can get if it's all by the books, classed as employed and paying tax and NI ? I mean, i work my balls off for this guy and he's paying me next to nothing.

It's kinda' starting to p*ss me off! Try learning to drive, paying board and trying to live a normal life on my wage :( lawl

Dunno really about UK law about minimum wage...but i think it's called minimum wage for a reason. I'd say, SAY that is, that you're being screwed in the a-hole.

No he isn't as your not 22 or over.

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/nmw/

What are the current rates of the national minimum wage?
There are three levels of minimum wage, and the rates from 1st October 2006 are:

£5.35 per hour for workers aged 22 years and older

A development rate of £4.45 per hour for workers aged 18-21 inclusive

£3.30 per hour for all workers under the age of 18, who are no longer of compulsory school age.

Due to new legislation coming in within the next few months there is no age boundries on the minimum wage due to new "ageism" laws. this means that you should experience a payrise (if earning minimum wage) of around 60 pence to the "adult" rate of pay.
Check out the customs and revenue .gov website for information on the current minimum wage and i think you'll be entitled to more. <-- (edit im wrong)

There IS a minimum wage else none would work because benefits would be higher than wages.

edit: also try and find a job where the pay rise each year is set just around the current inflation rate, that is if you intend on keeping the job longer than 3-4 years. However with pay like that i guess its only a student short-term thing.

the min wage is 4.45 if your 18-22.

edit: made a cock up of the hours. he is indeed putting less hours than youve worked on the slip.
visit your local citizens advice gaff imo.

Well i DID mean that part without the consideration of the minimum wage, which, as you might notice after reading the WHOLE thing, i did say should be paid.

I just take it for granted that people are smart enough to have this stuff in their contract.

It might be suggesting something waaaay out there... but have you spoken with your boss about this?

You don't even need to make a big issue out of it. You just go over to him with a payslip and ask him why it is that you are working more hours then you are getting paid for.

No offense but I keep seeing more and more posts on forums from people asking stuff that could be solved with a little communication... it just seems that people are forgetting how to talk to each other.

Laddey, you are being screwed and the law will fully protect you. Phone ACAS and get some advice, if he tries to make life hard for you or sack you then ACAS will fight your corner and you will end up with compensation for wrongful dismissal.

Well quite an reaction there Laddey, but yes, holiday pay for gathered holiday..err...days is the usual thing paid with last pay.

Though, since you quit, i don't know what happends to getting the "real" pay you should've gotten.

Hope you had another job you went straight into, otherwise it's a bit silly move to quit.

4.5£ ? wow thats low... here in denmark we dont as such have an actual law, rather than that it's what the variouse unions Worker/employer agree apon, however once thats said we do have "minimum" wage of around 8.3£ pr. hour for over 18's "no danish citizen earns less than that pr hr. and if they are they should talk to ther unions because then it's illigal.
