Ok, heres the problem. i need to change the IRC settings on another computers networc card. coz its using the same IRQ numbers as COM1 and COM2.

but the problem is that i cant change it because the OS (WinXP) doesent think that the networc card is plug and play :(

anyway around this? coz every time i try to connect to internet the computer "hangs" :(

Probably need to get some tool from the company (most of the times on their website) to change it (and probably has to be done in dos). There must be a way to change it in windows too but never found it..

Are you using the com ports? If not you can disable them and your network card will have full access to the IRQ. Also if your card is not P'n'P you might have to change the IRQ settings in BIOS from P'n'P to legacy.

can u make a quick walkthrough on that? :) i dont wanna break anything :)

/edit. found another wierd thing to. theres 2 USB ports on there to. but theres also 2 "controllers" to each of those USB ports. isnt there only supposed to be 1 for each?

Start -> Settings -> Control panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> Ports (COM & LPT) -> Right click Com 1 and Com 2 (LTP if you don't use a printer or if you got a printer using other interfaces like USB etc), chose Disable.

You BIOS I'm not sure since I don't know what you use, and even if I knew I probably won't have any experience of it. Your manual should tell you how to set the IRQ to P'n'P/Legacy mode.

Edit: if you install devices using COM or LPT ports you need to enable the port(s) again (same procedure but instead of Disable pick Enable :p ).

Since we have PCI cards, devices can share IRQs without any problems. If you still have an ISA card, throw it out and buy a cheap 100Mbit card.

Are you sure there is actually a conflict? It's perfectly normal for 2 devices to share an IRQ.

well. im 99% sure its a conflikt. as i have now 4 devices using the same IRQ (11)

that is the network card (PCI) both USB ports, the grafic card (AGP) and the COM ports. and yes i'm using those com ports

and every damn time i try to connect to the internet (or having the TP cable connected to the network card even) the blasted PC crashes..

and ive set the IRQ settings from P'n'P to legacy. but that didnt help.

ive tried diffrent network cards, ive tried several diffrent grafic cards (both AGP and PCI cards) and its just not working..... i am so out of ideas here....

/edit: i want to manually change what device use what IRQ. but as all of those bloody things isnt p'n'p that option is greyed out :(
