Freddyshouse forums has rules, code of conduct, has to be stuck to or else you get banned. Surly if Freddyshouse is a community, you need some sort of rules for the chat room, yes it's a different medium to forums, so i'm not suggesting that the rules be the same, but I reckon some rules should be compiled.

I'm sure i'll get a load of flames in here and things like 'fuck off if you don't like it' but it's simply not fair, some people get away with blue murder and others get banned without warning for sneezing. Infact, I don't even want the rules for myself, I want them so the OP's can ban people who break rules, EVERYONE who breaks rules, not just a select few while the others get away with it.

It's not going to be a very good community if people simply do what someone else does and gets banned. On the forums, if someone posted goatse, and it was turned a blind eye to, yet someone else posted it and they got banned, would that be fair? I'm pretty sure people would have a lot to say about it.

Please try and post some constructive replys, even if you don't agree with me.

Ah, I see Cyfr is back in his rules-lawyering mode again.

As I've said before, there will ALWAYS be some people who 'get away with things' simply because they're better known and better trusted by those who implement the rules.

Personally I'm surprised it's taken so long for Cyfr himself to get banned in #freddyshouse again.

-Ath, who even defended Cyfr at one point, but then Cyfr just went too far.

Edit: My fingers don't want to type 'Cyfr', can't blame them

Athan you can say i'm rules-lawyering all you want, if theres other way to stop op's from just banning people because they feel like it, please suggest it, but rules is the only one I can come up with.

The ops do what they want. I like it like that because they are usually right. And they get rid of idiots. You got banned again you say? Mhhh.

irc has always been like that though, it's the way of things. Maybe not right, but it's how it is.

There is one very simple rule in irc.
Its a rule that can often apply in real life.

That rule is... don't be a cock...

Cocks get banned because they irritate the ops. The End.

A rule that clearly no one adheres to in irc. By definition irc is a breeding ground for illiteracy and cocks.

Agreeing with Randomice. I see IRC as a conversation medium. Theres no real established rules but you know the basic do's and donts. The oldies (i.e. most of us in there now) know them pretty well and we may break them occasionally but for justifiable reasons or the pursuit of comedy.

Those who are new have to get into the swing of it before being accepted.

Like in real life, if your mate called you an utter cock for screwing something up it may be funny/moral. If a complete stranger does it to you you're more likely to be pissed off as you feel "who the hell is this guy to tell me this??"

Thats how i see it anyway

I've been on irc a few years now, as far as I can tell (since the op won't reply to me) I got banned for telling somebody to 'fo', now i'm sorry, but thats just damn right silly. Pretty much every other user in the room would get away with that. There clearly needs to be rules because the OP's, not the users, don't know when they are supposed to be banning people or not, as far as I can see a lot of the time it's just to increase ones virtual penis..

I remember when I gave Cyfr a BNC to allow him to connect to IRC. He got me glined within an hour. I have no idea how he managed it.

I am talking about #freddyshouse not quakenet in general, and the op's in #freddyshouse not ircop's.

Doesn't matter, the same rules apply.

On a side note, last I checked none of this site or anything to do with it is any longer linked to GAME or similar, so surley now we're back in the day that those that have the power can use the power and those that don't just get to suffer (a.k.a. as it was in days of yore).

and you expect to build a community on that?

I'm tempted to get meta here and say "Yes, we do expect to build a community on that, we already have, and we've stated the rules, i.e. that there are very few rules and we trust the ops to use their judgement in all instances and will put it down to experience when they screw up. Anyone whining about the lack of rules will be ignored, laughed at, hounded out of the channel and generally made fun of until they shut up".

Now, if you don't like the rules, you can always leave. <-- Golden rule of IRC.

I agree with monkey. If one of my mates in real life told me to fuck off, i would know it was said in a jokey way. Just like when certain people in irc say it, people who i would say are my friends. However if a Complete Young Fucking Retard tells me to fuck off i would be offended because it is abusive.

I also agree with athan - if you dont like it you dont have to type /join #freddyshouse. Just like here - if you dont like the atittudes(i have a feeling that aint spelt rite) then dont let the door hit you on the way out.

Barrysworld (and now freddyshouse - even without all the gameservers etc) has always been great community wise, it keeps going because of it (and nutters like deebs), instead of fading away like all those other gaming type providers that come and go.
Just because you rub people up the wrong way and exhaust peoples small amount of patience for people, doesnt make the community less valid? And the 'community' already exists why do you need to 'build' it now, that clearly happened many years ago. :twak:
