My little brother bought me one for Chrimble. Now, all I want to know is - do I have to use shitty fucking Itunes to populate it or can I just whack a load of MP3's on and be happy?

I don't do portable music, me :)

Looks like he's stopped dev on EphPod 'cause he's a bit snowed under. Any other nifty little ideas anybody? :)

tbh Scouce, I'd give iTunes some time

I _hated_ it the very first time I used it, it lasted less than 2/3 mins.

Now however it keeps my music library consistently clean and tidy (something winamp, windows media player & even specific tools from MusicBrainz never quite managed) and the smart playlists are simple and effective.

You don't have to use it to play your music on the machine (which I do now because I'm lazy) but I personally don't think there's a better sync solution.

That software does not work with the 3rd gen ipods and beyond though dys, as most of the 3rd party ones do not.

I use itunes daily and have no problems with it, people moan it takes up too much memory etc, but really with modern pc's you will not notice. It is neat and tidy for organising music, and works with your ipod effortlessly, unless you are a retard and cannot follow instructions.

I totally agree Ch3tan, i have a 8gb 3rd gen nano and i dont understand all the iTunes bashing, it works fine for me, and i find it so easy to navigate around, and i love the new 'Genius' feature too, as it makes up playlists based on certain songs that i like, one click and away it goes

I disagree about not noticing - I use iTunes and I'm ok with it but its totally bloated to AOL levels almost. If all you use it for is to load up your iPod with tracks it could become a real pain in the arse.

iTunes is great, the people that moan are the people that don't like to be seen/heard using anything that is popular

I've got a Mac so I use iTunes, but my girlfriend just uses foobar (with the ipod plugin) to update her iPod Nano.

To be fair, iTunes is bloated in comparison to other players, however imho it does it's job better when compared to those same players.
