Is it worthy or hype?

I'd deliberately avoided any hype whatsoever. What I'd say is that it's a good film but it's not *about* science fiction.

Worth it tho. Especially in IMAX 'cause it's very pretty.

Just got back. Can't decide whether I liked it or not. It was visually impressive (saw it in IMAX), and some of the "science" was well thought out, but other stuff, not so much.

Saw it on Saturday. I enjoyed it.

EDIT: The part of the film around Saturn (Wide shot) was fucking fantastic though.

It reminded me of A Christmas Carol. So I liked it ;)

Just came back from the cinema, saw it in IMAX, good movie, and glad they didn't split it into two or three films. I'm a massive science fiction aficionado, so glad to see they didn't butcher the science horribly.

Why even bother with cams ffs, do you still own a VHS player?

Hoping to see it this weekend, though we don't have an Imax anywhere near us unfortunately.

Get yo st00dent ass down the cornerhouse m8. It's *well* worth IMAX this one - and not just for the visuals. They had it turned up so loud that my trousers were moving in the sound waves :)

I download blueray rips, or wait for them to be on sky box-office but you are ruining the experience watching some tinny sounding, fuzzy pictured cam.

A film has to be pretty special for me to shell out 20odd quid for me and the wife to see at the cinema with the riffraff coughing and rustling throughout.

Worth it in IMAX here IMO m8...

Superb film and I appreciate it when filmmakers don't treat the audience like fools. Some people said that the audio was sometimes unclear, I can't say I had any problems on that score. Sometimes, if loud shit is going down, you're not meant to hear what people are saying.

Hmmmm..I don't know where to begin...2001 plus contact plus a mash of the sequel Clarke novels...don't open the hatch was straight out of space oddysey and the wormhole...but really not as good..the organ music just swamped it..overall creepy but not a patch on the movies it stole from.

Nothing like 2001 and not really a "sci-fi" movie at its heart tbfh.

No it was a dreadfully drawn out and confusing mish mash of a French art movie and clips from classic sci.fi movies.
Music was overpowering trying to be the gothic athena jupiter soundtrack..but just went right through the film..sorry didn't work for me even the robots looked like obilisks from 2001.

What on earth are you on about? The hatch scene happened because he was demented, whereas the hatch scene in 2001 happened because he was thinking logically.

...and that's kind of my problem with it. It could have been science fiction (yes, some of the concepts it uses are probably bullshit, but they're not actually bullshit yet), but then it overlays the physics with a giant layer of mushy bullshit. The minute Brand goes off into her little speech when they're deciding which planet to choose I groaned, because two scientists were talking it seriously. Then it comes up again when he's at the bookshelf and I was just..."oh fuck off". And its all unnecessary, because the plot doesn't need to go there, because most of the internal logic of the plot actually works fine.

Yeah. I could feel that way about it too and almost did. But at the end of the day it just ain't that film. As much as I wanted it to be a hard sci-fi film. It's just a human story about a dad and his daughter.

A good one, at the end of the day...

Edit: But yeah ;)

Some great visuals, especially in IMAX but all the early good work and strong science elements all get thrown out the window when it turns out everything ends up being about "love".

Very forgettable..a hurried start with a dragged out middle and pointless end.

Yeah like I said in the first thread about this film, the first 2 hours or so are pretty solid but then they just wrote some drivel.

'One' suspect concept imo but overall I absolutely fucking loved this movie. I was gutted when it ended and would easily class it (until I see it again) as one of my all time favs.

Saw it in IMAX (at the Cornerhouse Scouse) and completely agree with you.

I agree but overall there was only one, maybe two which I took real issue with - The travelling into (or even near) a black hole idea was utter nonsense. However, I thought the 'science' was well presented for most movie goers and the ideas were quite interesting. My bird had a few queries like:

- Why do they make up stuff like time going slower when travelling close to the speed of light? Me: Yeah, Einstein was a right fucking charlatan.
- What is Eureka? :)
- How can they sleep in those white boxes?
