Hi,

i've got 2 pc's,

1x WINXP Pro
1x WIN98(se)
Cable internet, and a router

And my problem is this; Win98 comp doesn't show up in the network :(
while with same settings (or i think it is), winxp does show up, and is able to reach the internet via the router, where win98 isn't..

Any help on this ?

2nd reply to myself :/ where's that darn edit button?

Anyway, new problem rised;

Printer sharing, i've got this USB printer installed on the WINXP machine.. shared and all, but while trying to install on the win98 machine is says 'serious error' and it stopped installing.

Could this be because win98 doesn't support USB or whatever? :p or am i doing sumthing wrong ? :)

What printer is it? Whether 98 supports USB or not is irrelevent, since a shared printer is an LPR queue and support since the early days. I take it this "serious error" message is coming up while installing the software, not just the driver, from whichever manufacturer it is. Can you try setting the printer up through the "Add printer" wizard, pointing it at the right share, and just specifying the driver?

You couldn't tell me how you got your 98SE machine to appear on the Network please.

i used to have the same setup,
pc1 on xp with cable internet connection
pc2 on win98 with printer

Was a bloody pain getting both file sharing and ICS to work, no one thing would get it to work just hours of tweaking and rebooting. Decided to put xp on pc2 and seems to be more reliable. :)

Are you trying to print in word? I used to have a problem with that over the network but that was a bug with office.

Is the other PC an XP machine?
Are you using a router, or switch, or cross over cable?
Can you ping the PC from the other in DOS?

Some basic stuff (that you might have already but just in case).
Right click the Network Neighborhood icon and click properties. On the Configuration tab make sure Client for Microsoft Networks is there, and your network card of course, and TCP/IP, and File and printer sharing if ya wanna do that (not needed if you is only looking for internet access and games stuff iirc)
On the Identification tab make sure the Workgroup is exactly the same as the other PC.

If still need help give us more clues and we'll try. I know this can be done cos mine works (XP & 98) although I aint ever used ICS cos I got a router/switch thingy :)
