Guys

I have a problem with internet explorer. Every time I reboot Windows internet explorer boots up automatically and it goes to a page called foxwar.com I have no prblems closing down the page at all and when I reopen I.E it goes straight to my homepage

I have checked the website and foxwar appears to be an internet based game whereby the more clicks you get through the website the more points you get and the more you win. I don't remember ever going to such a site.

Anyway. I have ran a virus check and my system appears clean. Spybot Search And Destroy does not appear to identify anything to do with foxwar. I keep clearing the cookie out for it and when I reboot it comes back. When I open windows explorer and do a search for fox. on my hard drive there are 2 files which I am unsure of ODFOX32 which is in winxp/I386 & odfox32.dll in C:\Windows\System32. I am running Internet explorer Version 6 with all the latest patches and SP1 on Windows XP Pro

What is the best way to stop this happening when I boot my system. I am unsure how malicious it is and obviously want the files off my system. I was thinking of a pop up blocker but that wont actually delete it from the system

Any help would be much appreciated

Regards

A quick google reveals that the dll is quite legit

This may not sound like the best answer, but IE is so full of security holes that I ended up giving up on it altogether and moved over to Mozilla Firefox.

I've never looked back.

Try going into start->run->msconfig, click 'ok'. You should see this:

msconfig.jpg

See if there is anything in the 'startup' tab that looks like that an IE window being executed. I still reckon Firefox is the better idea.

Stop bloody pimping firefox! :D

Anyway, have you checked the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run section of your registry, to see if there is anything malicious in there?

SysInternals do a good (i.e. small/free/works) app for diagnosing and managing all the bits of cruft that run at boot-time called AutoRuns. Very handy.

Not wanting to threadjack, but I have tried it, and several others, and IE is so much better in so many respects. Plain and simple, it just works, and has the best layout/functionality.

had something similar - go with Toms suggestion.

start --> run --> regedit

Search for the url and it may come up with something. BUT! be very careful waht you change in there.
