Hoorah!!

This weekend im guna meet the girl i've been speaking to on the Internet and on the Phone for the past month or so, very nervous and excited. I live near Bristol and she lives in Basingstoke, the distance is the only thing I see as a major problem between us, but you don't know without trying.

Has anyone done anything like this before, this is my first time, if they have, have they got any advice?

In the old days I used a dating site, more to kill time really as you could login leave a few messages e.t.c. My aim was to make some friends really, but I ended up getting to know a girl over the course of a year and ended up staying with her for 3 months in the summer of 02... I also made a good female friend who sadly I've lost touch with since meeting my present girlfriend who I've been with for over 2 years now (met her in a nightclub on the day I had given up on women and had totally given up looking for a gf :) ).

I must of met 6 girls via online dating. My only advice would be wait for a few months before meeting them and then meet in a modern pub that sells food, nearby a bowling centre e.t.c. That way you can have a drink and if it goes bad you can cut the date short. If it goes well, there's food avaliable... Also on the first date never go to the cinema. Its a converstation killer and feels to awkward.

Anyhow goodluck PLightstar, after all, He who dares, wins ;)

Take em to a arcade and beat the shit out of them on an old copy of Streetfighter II. If you get beaten yourself, marry her ;)

I've met a few girls over the 'net -- just take it easy and treat her nicely, the same way you would for a date you'd met anywhere else. A couple of them turned out to be married (its not just men that use the net to cheat!) and one, on the second date, told me she used to be a man...

Since then I've made "No Tongues" an unwritten rule for all internet first dates.

Heh.. funny - when I first started dating my wife, she used to beat three shades of shit out of me: on a Mortal Kombat arcade machine.

Been married 8 years now. :D

Some of you know already that I met my current gf (of, hmmm, 15 months now) via OkCupid, and we first met up on the day that I also went to the last FreddyBeer. Fortunately Doomy/CptDoom kept Amanda entertained with chat about NeverWinter Nights whilst I nattered to chelgrian :).

She's also the one to blame for me playing WoW, as she started it first.

Prior to that I'd had a whole bunch of gf's, and even a now ex-wife, who I met over the net first. There's certainly nothing wrong with it, indeed it can mean you get to know *the person* better first, rather than going on the physical side of things initially.

Good advice above about meeting in a public place and leaving options open. Amanda and I met in Leicester Square, went for a walk around Docklands, grabbed some food, then went to the FB pub.

Do it the other way round.

After knowing Trem in real life for 6-7 years, I have since decided it's better we keep our relationship strictly on the Internet.

You know it's funny, I've never met Trem but I kinda figured that out too.

Well im back and it was an interesting weekend to say the least, but I had a great time. Think we are guna just be friends. I suppose I'll just have to keep looking. Mind you these kind of things are great for quick getaways to other parts of the country, theres a women in Leciester interested in me, I've never been there.

(always look on the brightside of things)

You're better off looking closer to home mate. Meeting women across the country is fine, but if you become interested in her its going to be very awkward.

Must be plenty of women in your area? :)

Yeah, but I don't get on with many in my town and the ones I do get on with class me as a nice guy good friend.

Mind you I was talking to someone who lives a town or so over from me, we exchanged numbers, so I might give her a call.

PLightstar: Great to know it's going ok for you mate, as SAS has said, if you start seeing women from other parts of the country and you happen to fall for someone, it'll be rather difficult to keep the relationship going, due to distance and anything else. Two of my relationships ended with let's just be friends, due to the above reason. :) Anyway, carry on..you're doing great for yourself at the mo, keep it up! ;)

Oh I see you're not a rohypnol man. Try GHB, it's actually really pleasant in smaller doses (bit like pills and booze combined), it's just the higher doses it gets messy on.

If you can't laugh about things like death, god, etc, what can you laugh about?

Met my gf on the internet and we spent 2 or 3 months seeing each other as friends then we started our relationship proper as it were last 6 weeks. Things are going really well we're very much in love and I'm the happiest I've been in years! Cetrtainly gets my vote :)
