I can't remember where it was(radio i think) that in the future, it's most likely possible to grow meat, like burgers and loins and whatnot, in tubes or such.

Now, would vegetarians or vegans(yeah i know there's a difference) then eat meat? As it's no longer "exploiting animals".

Whadda'ya think?

lots of people that call them self vegatarians eats fish here in denmark

because they are fools :p

my housemate is a vegetarian and disagrees with the way animals etc are treated, she says she would have no problems eating free-range chicken meat but after 20 years as a vegetarian the thought of eating meat disgusts her so doubt she would ever change, regardless of how its produced :p

If you are growing 'meat' in a test tube then the cells which comprise the animal muscle grown as a 3D in-vitro culture had to have come from somewhere... Which means an animal will have died to supply the cells which were used to seed the 'artificial' muscle. So the ethical quandry would remain.

what if the animal died naturally and then its delicious protein was harvested?

Yeah... like an industry growing meat artificially is going to wait for animals to die naturally :p
Besides, the best way to grow meat is to feed an animal grain! and kill it :p

This is ofcourse a valid thing. If you don't like meat, simple, then shouldn't eat ofcourse :D

If one animal has to die today, among the others, to provide no killing in the future, i think it's "humane" enough. Also, synthetics is a possibility.

couldnt you just use one animal and make x number of tonnes of meat from its cells?

I fucking hate Vegans.

There. I said it.

Vegans are nothing more than self loving egotistical fucktards, I fucking hate them. Never have I been able to eat a pizza or anything of the like within a 5 foot radius of these twats without them whinging at me. My cousin used to live with some and I went round completely ignorant of the fact that they were all vegan bar him and they throw a bloody fit the moment I walked in.

I absolutely well and truly fucking hate vegans, they PISS ME OFF.

'nuff said.

I don't hate vegans in general, i do dislike people who tell me what i should do, and how my way is wrong compared to theirs.

Those kind of vegans/vegetarians, are a pain, especially in restaurants.

If it is to be synthetic yet indistinguishable from slaughtered meat in taste, texture and character then it's way way off... and something will still have to die to provide the meat so hardcore veggie hippie eco warriors would still go apeshit.

If we're talking synthetics, no, something doesn't have to die. 'cause it's synthetic. But, ayes, that's in the future still.

A bit closer would be; DNA->cloning.

And that's what i think will happen too.

No casualties in that.

Except that then we'll have the hardcore bible waving omnipotent Goditarians to deal with.

I don't think there will be synthetics as long as you can grow a cow tbh :p

Don't be too sure.

Even if cows are, these days especially, useless for anything else except milk/meat production(those veggies don't get it), i wouldn't rule out synthetic food.

Afterall, we're gonna need it anyway if we're heading out...*points up*...there.

lmao i have actually heard someone say "im a vegitairian but i eat fish" and when questioned on this they explained that fish wasn't an animal Oo

and they say fish is good for brain growth, i guess that just shot that theory down in flames lol.

if meat was grown in a test tube they'd probably still say it was cruelty. everythings cruel and evil to them, there are even some people who go so far as to denounce fruit and veg because its from a living organism...though i cant see them living too long on a diet of coal or something maybe?

I can guarentee synthetic will = more expensive than feeding a cow and making it have babies and killing said cow for meat. Plus the milk... :p

Allright..

So if i don't like the way they threat cows / chickens / pigs etc befor they get taken to the slaughter house.

But i don't really care about the fishies becuse they get to swim around doing what they do best until one beautiful day they get caught, so i eat fish to keep some meat in my diet.

Does that make you a moron?

Vegans are so full of shit its untrue.

Its nature. If they want to make a point about how badly animals are treated, fuck off to Africa then and put themselves in front of a pack of hungry lions who are about to eat an elephant alive.

My sister is vegan because she believes that eating animal products actually make her ill. Whether or not thats true being vegan seems to work for her. Sooo.. she wouldn't eat this.

It all depends why a person is vegetarian, the vegan's twin sister is (mostly) vegetarian just because she doesn't like the taste of meat anymore.

Moral issues are NOT the only reason why some people make a no-meat diet choice and bashing people for their eating habits gets old so fast.

The only vegetarians or vegans who get on my nerves are the ones that lecture me over my evil meat eating ways :p
