Intellipoint 5.0 question

I bought a new mouse recently, it's a MS Intellimouse Explorer 4.0. It comes with a cd with Intellipoint 5.0 drivers.

Untill recently i was allways very content with the Intellipoint 3.1 drivers and my former Intellimouse Explorer cause i could bind the extra buttons to any key i wish.

But with the new drivers i can only select some actions (like cut, paste, copy and stuff) and the driver icon doesn't appear in the systemtray either anymore. I tried reinstalling the 3.1 drivers again to see if they would work with my new mouse but for some reason they don't.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Is there another program that could bind other keys to the mousebuttons? I really like the new mouse but it sucks they changed the software :(

Thanks!

There's the basic stuff: Uninstall; Check for redundant registry entries; kick your PC.

I'm not too familiar with intellipoint drivers (though I'm told they can be used to assign buttons on logitech mice far better than the logitech drivers)

With it being MS software, the chances are that version upgrades are non reversible, just like DirectX. Typical MS arrogance. "Our new version is better than the last one and if you disagree you're wrong.", so getting rid of the 4.0s might be tricky. try www.annoyances.org. If it's a well known problem, there should be a well documented removal procedure, that will allow you to back up to 3.1

PR.

Dunno about the shortcuts, but the Intellipoint 5 doesn't include the system tray icon. It used to tell you when your wireless batteries were low and now... and now it doesn't :(

yeah this pissed me off as well

poxy MS, ive stuck with 4.12 drivers on my pc as i bind my side mice buttons to 'Keystroke'

Annoylingly though i had to put version 5 on my server as it runs 2003 server and that doesnt like the version 4 drivers

How can i massive company get something this simple wrong.

Bindable mouse buttons = Good
3 Crap options which everyone uses the Keyboard for anyway = Bad

duh?

Ziva, have you tried using nasty file remover to get rid of the newer drivers?

Thanx for all your advice. If i knew this upfront i probably wouldn't have bought the mouse. Can't return it now though and to be honest the mouse itself is nice.

I guess i have to get used to not beeing able to use the extra buttons ingame and yes... Microsoft made a big mistake by removing these options, i can only hope the newer version of drivers will have the ability again.
