The easiest way to do it is

Main Drive - Windows 98
Second Drive - Windows XP

If you install 98 first then XP will create a boot menu for you.

Other than that it's get yourself a boot manager.

you need to boot disk to do it mate, stick the cd in and boot disk in at same time when comp is loading up and then press 1 or 2 i think to boot form cd/bootdisk and wait awhile and then type format c:, then setup after then u install win 98.

Easiest way is to burn the files as an .iso image to CD and install it from that.
You can also get virtual cd software that makes the computer think a part of your HD is actually a CD.

Explain exactly what you are trying to do?

You have 1 machine with 1 hard disk and want to remove Windows XP and re-install Windows 98?

You have 1 machine with 2 hard disks and want to run windows XP and windows 98?

You have 2 machines (both running Windows XP and networked) and want 1 to run windows 98?

What do you mean by BBS?

You can't make a cd from those files? If you can, just 'disable' the WinXP HD, reboot pc, and let it install from the cd then.

Other than this, i don't think it's possible to install win98 under XP. But as said before, vise versa this works.

make sure the 2nd hdd isnt a ntfs formatted drive other wise ur bugered, and may need to use partition magic to convert it or i think u can do it from winxp with partition magic installed.

after u have got the 2nd hard drive to fat16/32 then copy over the win98 u download on to the 2nd hard drive, then get a win98 boot disk and boot from it , after that go to the drive that has the win98 files on and go to the main directory i.e win98 -> setup.exe i think. ther should be a file with in the win98 u downloaded called setup.exe.

run it and you should be able to install. with out a cdrom.

the main thing u need to do is make sure u have win98 boot disk and formated the 2nd hard drive to fat 16/32 and copy the win98 u downloaded files over to it , and run the setup.exe file.

p.s as some one said the way u want to do it may require u to have a boot manager installed.

or you could alter the boot.ini file and do it that way :)

simple

but as i said in my first post my floppy drive is buggerd , but i will see if i can get it workin again, how would i alter the boot.ini to boot the setup file?

this is not a flame, but so many of you posted without reading my first post stating that i dont have the win 98 cd or a burner

Then what you'll need to do is run some virtual CD software to fool the comp into thinking part of your HD is a CD drive and run the win98 setup through that. This should do the trick.
