Hi guys,

tomorrow I'm going to be installing Win10 off some media as a fresh install for the first time. I've only ever done upgrades off of existing Windows instances. In my case I actually own three different Win7 keys, so that's cool I guess.

My question is: where do I get the Win10 product key to use when installing fresh? Do I just type in my Win7 key? I notice in my current workstation that I actually see a product key in Control Panel\System and Security\System. Do I use that one?

Answers on a postcard plox!

You can put in your Windows 7 key since they updated 10 to allow it. If it all goes tits up you can contact them and they will sort you out. They gave me an actual Win10 product key (not one of those generic things) with very little fuss.

Previously you had to upgrade an existing install and then be signed in to a MS account which then ties that install to your hardware.
