Initial impressions?

Well took my first char to lvl 5 then logged to create all the other names I wanted. So not on for too long. Have to say I thought it was fun. I like the combat system, although I was beating multiple chars at same level with ease which seemed a little odd. Maybe a tad too easy.

Nice graphics and char maker seemed quite good, but exiting rather than logging to a char select screen is horrible.

It is pretty easy killing stuff in the start, but after level 20 there is quite the difference.

All in all, the game is pretty good, visually, lore and game mechanics. The combat system is of course a strongpoint. I've not tried any high level content, the levelling will sure be fun, but we'll see how the high level stuff turns out. Siege pvp, minigames and raids/dungeons.

I do NOT like the instance shit, if its like that throughout it will be on the express train to the recycle bin

My only impressions are that I can't get into the game. The build on Friday worked fine, but the current one is causing all sorts of video problems for me just in the adverts/video at the start ... random patterns, flashing screen and even some garbled audio.

If the entry screens don't work one has to imagine that the game itself is going to be a no go for my pc.

Is a Radeon X600 graphics card not sufficient for this game??

Upgrade to Nvidia might be a good option if you can. 8800 GTS is a decent card. Tried on my rig with Sli and just one card works fine.

x600 isn't a great card though is it? radeon or not.

Vista's SP vaporized my Vista. So had to reinstall OS and now I am redownloading the client, 44% through. Using a BitTorrent as Funcom's one was way too slow.

Don't really know why there are some much higher level mobs near the mobs you need for quests but, all in all, it is a fun game and well put together from what I've seen so far.

atm i am 15lvl dark templar
graphics look very good
lvling is nice, especially quest rewards are very neat
the story in single player is not boring and the dungeons are superb
the bad thing is that i did them mostly solo
i miss grping at this stage
the combat system isnt that great, but i prolly have to wait till much higher lvl
ui and chat sux

512mb 8800gt for £99 bargin may end up playing on the 6600 if they sort out the damn US -> EU EA crap but im expecting the new card tuesday plenty of time for retail

How come? If you wanna change instance u can do that in what 5 seconds ( if u and ur grp got put in diffrent ones ).

Imagine a server with 3k ppl on at same time where everyone1 was pvping eachother over exp spots and quest items i need to loot etc. I <3 instances

I can't comment much as i haven't seen it yet but i imagine the instanced stuff is like Guildwars and in that it works very well, especially on a game where its basically all against all (everyone in the same places not in 3 realms like daoc) without instancing everyone in 1 zone would just be baaaaaaaad xD

Too much instancing and shit. Feeling of being cutt of from the world, at least in the beginning. Otherwise its great fun.

There are very many people online today, I'd ponder how it'd look like with everyone in one zone. I agree that it feels abit like moving from a room to another, with closed doors. But still it's definitely the most practical solution.

I find the whole chat thing horrible tbh. Impossible to type anything whilst fighting, plus mousing to the tabs then enter and type takes too long. Why not a simple /t /c /p and /g. Still strong reason for TS/Vent

DAoC had tabs worked for 5 years straight!

And it is uber easy to write when in combat, since when you stop typing and start fighting the chat lays in the background so you don't get the 11222334444wesd in the chat. Can't be any better then that, think you need a chat bootcamp to learn how to turn on the features

Im betting this instancing will decrease after you hit the mainland and on higher levels.

I agree...it seems the talk about a "miracle patch" that would increase performance was very true after all. AoC performs pretty strong so far. Me likey!

twin 8600M GT in Sli runs great 70+fps, also tried without Sli and it works fine down to about 28+ fps but still very nice

I think the game is awsome having soem great fun, the guild management system is awful though and the UI itself is pretty poor. Little grey dot for group members anyone?

Hehe almost the oposit for me, runs much worse

In closed beta I could have 200 fps at some paces now it never passes 100. Though now I run vsync forced and it is mostly locked on 60 fps but often dips down to 30 fps wich is qq

Alot more choppier imo, but I guess performance will increase over the weeks/months to come.
