Basically I feel numb, a bit shocked that I got anything due to the fact that I didn't even see the will ^_^ - although in some ways I am glad about it in that way because I don't care what every one else got

I got stuff planned tho. But the reality is that money can't buy your grandad and your dad back. Guess that's why I am feeling confused about it.

Everyone dies, its the only real certainty in life. Leaving thier possessions/money to younger people is a way for that person to live on in the form of good memories, and gives that person the peace of mind that although they are gone, they are making someone else's life that little bit easier.

Dont hate the money or feel bad that you have recieved it, accepting it is not a sign of being glad or happy or whatever that the person is gone, its a sign of respect towards them.

Its a gift from them to you, its what they wanted for you, and the thought of giving that gift to would of given them happiness while they were alive. So its done its job, and it will do its job even more if you accept and enjoy the cash as a kind act of generosity that it represents.

You dont have to spend it yet, put it in a savings account for 2 years and spend it when times are happier if the problem here isnt the gift but that you dont feel you can enjoy it yet. You will be able to, and though the grief will never go away entirely, it will become less dominant as time goes by.

Oh, and if i were to give some advice, i'd say dont spunk it away on material possessions or booze, but use it to do something like taking a year out travelling.

I would put it in a bank and use it for when you need it. Dont waste it on a PS3, but something like a college/uni course, or a car etc.

Well, i have small needs, PS3 = nQQb imo and not having a tv also helps on that score

I aint updated my comp since the begining of the xp2800 era
so yeah, gonna upgrade but looking at it hard before i commit myself. There's
so much out there now from when I last upgraded.

clothes
couple of nights out for the lads at home on me
and the rest, well i just locked that bitch in fixed rate bond that i can't touch for 12 months.

Appointing my aunt as my trustee so i can't even see the remainder. Will see her on an annual basis to discuss how i can better invest my cash.

But like i said, it's not the cash I givf a shit about. It's more the personal shit that bothers me now, and hellass. I don't even have the tools to cook xmas dinner tomorrow :E

I have never inherited anything but my mate got £300 odd from his Granddad and he had the same problem. He ended up sponsoring a Lion cub and giving it his Granddads name. So every year he gets a Christmas card from his granddad the Lion

I know what you mean abut it being a taboo, its like you feel guilty for being happy about the money and in most cases the recipient would much rather have the person than money.

I know personally when my grandma died she left all the grand kids a £1000 each, I was only 18 at the time and blew it I'd much rather have had something that was hers to remember her by, when my bf's nana died she left me a little crystal owl and i love it to bits it reminds me of her every time i see it and guards my book case, i wish I had something like that form my own grandma but I've got memories.

I think all you can do is spend it in a way that would have made the person who left it to you happy then you cant possibly feel any guilt, if you squander it you will probably feel like you let them down, thats how I feel abut the money my grandma left me.

Any hoo dont feel bad, they left it to you to make you happy

Well, there are two reasons i don't feel good about it. Ok, this has nothing to do with FH, well I guess in some cases it has.... I didn't earn it. And that to me suxx. It's tainted glory. And the second bit is that it can't replace my dad and my grandad.

Oh and heads up to all you bitches out there expecting me to pay taxes on my small windfall - i didn't get 500,000 sterling, eat my tax evasion

If it came from your dad and grandad then in many ways you did earn it by being their son/grandson for X years.

While nothing can ever replace them, most parents if you asked them what they really want it's for their kids to be happy. So spend it making yourself happy in whatever way you feel best and help them achieve that goal, even after they have gone. Don't view it as you've replaced them for the money, but you've got the money to try and do what they would of wanted to of been able to help you do had they of been here.
