Haha "can I have 2 for Basterds please". Maybe that was why he named it so?

Anyways, was a really great film, awesome characters and the music was great as always! Hans Landa (SS) was such a scary character, also he looked a little like Rob Brydon :p

I've always been on the fence with Tarantella, some of his work is brilliant as a hangover movie, some are too artistic, some have annoyances that just ruin a perfect movie(kill bill anger music etc), some are pure class.

I've been waiting for this one as it seems like a nice idea and based on the trailer, seems to pull it off.

Have to see it when it gets here.

I've heard so many bad reviews about this, but its good to hear a real persons thoughts on it instead of critics

Yeah critics love to hate tarantino because he makes a film HE wants. Also because he's good at what he does, the films HE likes/creates are also enjoyed by alot of people.

not all his films are good as has been said previous. I don't generally go along with the whole Tarintino is the best in the worldz everzzzzz opinion. I like him though don't get me wrong on that.

Went to see it lastnight and I thought it was amazing. Great music, great characters and a good plot in my opinion. It was able to add lots of comic relif without becoming a comedy. Definatly worth going to see, one of the few movies ive seen recently that were worth paying for.

I wanted to add something in spoliers for the people who have seen it but for the life of me i cant figure out how...anyone wanna tell me?

yeah exactly. I was glad Hitler was killed because it stopped any retarded critic saying "oh here goes america again on how they won the war". Also how beautifuly shot was the scene were the french dude reveals the location of the jews under his floorboards!

So I finally saw that movie yesterday night and I wasn't that impressed at all. First of all, there was too much text and not enough ammo for a real action movie, but the story was too easy for a demanding movie.

The camera and the cut was really class because they put some real tense into the scenes (except that the fight in the cave bar could have used some slow motion).

Then to the actors. Brad Pitt as commander? I'm sorry but it looked just ridiculous and same goes for Daniel Brühl as the 300-guys-killer. Brühl has more of a depressed guy or something like that and the role just doesn't fit him. Til Schweiger (the crazy German Sgt.) and Christoph Waltz (Hans Landa) are really good, though and so is Mélanie Laurent (Shosanna).

Now add the pleasure of sitting in a German cinema and getting at least 30483948 "such a bullshit" comments each time a Nazi opens his mouth (no shit Sherlock, we know by now it's BS, but please let me watch the fucking movie, kthx) and I felt I had wasted my money :(

Oh I forgot another positive thing. It was really nice to have people speak in their original languages. Would have been even cooler if the English parts had been English as well. (What language does Landa speak in the first scene in the Eng. version when he asks wether he is allowed to speak German?)

Is this the scene when he's speaking to the dairy farmer who he suspects is hiding the jews? He speaks in french, then says that's about his limit, so can he switch to english

Thank you =) Yes, this is the scene I meant and shame he asks to speak english cause well, he's German after all, heh =)

As I said, I would've loved to see the movie in original languages only, a bit like "L'auberge Espagnole".

I think Hans Landa was Austrian (although their language is very similar to german i believe...but this does not make a difference to my next bit.

Hans says (something along these lines) to the dairy farmer "i have been told you speak good english, however we're in your home so I will speak french".

After a few minutes he switches to english. The reason is so the jews cannot understand him. That's why he says "ok, we'll switch back to french and you roleplay with me".

I think he can speak perfect french. My assumption is based on the fact his french conversation uses articulate words. He also 'tests' brad pitt when speaking Italian. We also know he speaks perfect english so it's safe (imo) to assume he speaks french very well.

In short, the reason he switched to english was to avoid the jews listening in, and he knew the farmer also spoke english.

Hehe I hope i'm correct :p

ooh was meaning to ask a German about a couple of things. Hope you can help Liloe?

1) The bit where the English man orders 3 beers in German, but does not use his thumb for the hand gesture. Is that true?

2) Does his accent seem authentic, or does he sound crap?

1) I hadn't thought about it that much tbh, when they said that in the movie, I thought it was kinda right =) I wouldn't recognize a German by that, though =)

2) At least in the German movie he speaks very well and sounds authentic. The language skills overall are really good in the movie =)

I saw this Monday afternoon, was also one of the few films this year which didn't make me check my watch after 20 minutes. The mix of languages in the film kept a smile on my face (I spent a week in Corsica, so hearing French again made me cringe ;P) and I actually thought it was a good film. Probably one I'd watch only once more though.

Only retards have complained about the reading so far imo. I've watched hundreds of subbed films, so is second nature to watch/read at the same time.

Loved some of the violence scenes in it.. And the standard Tarantino womans foot shot :p
