Guess it's because when the food gets to "rest" a couple of hours it gains more flavour from the ingredients, but it's just a guess :p

I guess it is like meat, when slaughtered and hung properly for a couple of weeks enziemes produced by decay break down the proteins in the meat and make it more tender and flavoursome.

Try this. Make;
Bread(white)
butter(real)
cheese(edam works real good)
tomato
lettuce
ham
etc...

Make it a doubledecker if you want.

On a plate, that plastic thingy(can't remember english word) over the bread and plate.

Leave at fridge for night.

At morning, the juices from tomato etc thingies happen and the bread becomes hellagood :D

Anything you want really. Just put something that has "juice" in them, like cucumber(works well) so that it's next to the cheese. The effect is either "omg i love this" or "wtf...i'll puke now thank you"

or sausages cooked normally, left to go cold over night in the fridge then sliced up, stick them in a baking dish, poor in cooked baked beans, stir them together etc. then slice some potatoes real thin and give them a quick once over in a fryinag pan, lay them flat over the beans and suasages and cook for half an hour.

god i am hungry now

I like most foods after they've been cooked and cooled, like cold sausage sarnie > hot sausage sarnie, COld Pizza > Hot Pizza, Cold Chicken and Chips > Chicken and Chips etc etc

Maybe im jsut weird but in my opinion its much more flavoursome!
