The problem with the Renault 5 turbo type car brigade with pumping bass and all the addons and shit is that they are dangerous because their cars are so bloody slow BUT they THINK they are fast. Im for ever seeing blokes in souped up piles of slow GTI/ TURBO crap overtaking lines of cars - but cause there cars are so fukin slow their on the other side of the road for ages. Waiting to be hit head on by something coming around a corner or somethin.

Unless your car can do 0 -60 in under 4 secs and has a top speed in excess of say 150 mph then it aint fast. If you want to drive like a cunt then spend £5 - 8 K on a decent sportsbike then at least you have something that is capable of overtaking lines of cars without being on the other side of the road for more than a couple of secs. Also you are more of a risk to yourself than anyone else and if you choose to use the roads as your racetrack you run the risk of paying with your life. The wankers in their laughably slow Renault 5 turbos are far far more likely to kill / injure other people than do much harm to themselves.

Exor - maybe u dont know what a dump valve does. Its there to releave pressure from the turbo when u are changing gear and its aid is to reduce lag... when u change gear the dump valve lets out all pressure from the spinning turbo so that when u enter into your next gear the turbo will quickly spin up and provide a smooth power delivery rather than having a spinning turbo when going into the next gear and bogging down the power delivery. So, its not all show is it m8.

Thing is, bikes are fast, but on a rainy cold day I know what I would rather be riding in/on

and thats a nice heated car.

And if I was to have an accident, OUCH, on a bike you'd be in much more danger.
When I crashed my 3 series I barely felt a thing cos of the nice crumple zones

mind you, cost a FUCKING lot to fix :/
(and before you call me a hypocrite for saying boy racers are more likely to crash, I had a front tire blow-out in bad weather).

err that was my point...Unless you have in excess of £100,000 there is no such thing as a fast car. 0 - 60 in 7.5 secs is laughable.

You could buy a used RGV 250 wich would do 0- 60 in 4 secs for about £1500

If you had 4k to spend a 3 year old gsxr750 could give you 0-60 in 3.2 secs and a top speed of 170mph. (0 -100 in about 9.5 secs I think)

hell a decent dersitricted 125cc learner bike will do 0 - 60 in about 7 to 8 secs.

So my point still stands if you own some slow old horse drawn cart thing like a GT turbo or a 1.9 205 GTI dont pretend to yourself its fast and start attempting to overtake lines of cars and stuff......

A lot of woman seem to be impressed by these wank wagons mind..so they have got something going for them

So u'd not think of an 8 secs to 60 motor to be that nippy at all considering u mention sporty light as chuff bikes... Yea, some of those bikes are nice and everything but i wouldnt last 5 mins if i had something THAT fast, specially with only 2 wheels! One thing tho - it isnt worth you calling such cars shit simply because they aint of your taste or are 'slow'. Ppl have diff tastes. I aint really totally into bikes like i am motahs but i wouldnt just simply say a motorbike is shit because its slow, has naff handling or whatever cuz i respect others opinions.

TUG, for 8 grand you can pick up an HF Integrale! Why would you want a nissan of any sort over a Delta? This isn't a flame, just a question.

As for bikes, R5 GT Turbos, et al. I have a bike, I have ridden bikes for the last 24 years, and there is nothing this side of £100k that is as fast as a bike. I have also spent time in hospital after bike accidents.
I have also driven a totally tricked R5 GT Turbo, and that car was fast. Not as fast as a bike, but damned fast. Didn't like the torque steer tho.
If you want cheap, fast(ish) cars then look at Celica GT4's, Audi Quattro Turbos, Lancia Delta HF Integrale. All for less than £10k, some as low as £4k. All with 4WD! That's the real beauty.

As for EXOR, I wouldn't waste my typing time.

Got a decent post going ere, so ill put my 2 pence worth in. I ya want cheap speed, and death get a bike, any sports 600 will melt ya brain. If yer want somthing you can cover in No fear, Kenwood and Oakley stickers and blast round your local Maccys drive thru, or town centre one way system, just get some clapped out D reg xr2 (you can place the stickers over the rust).

Btw Tug, the dump valve, or waste gate (they can be intergated) provdies another function. A turbo can produce 30-50 psi intake manifold pressure, if ya let averge Nissan 1.8 run this kind of boost, it prolly wouldnt manage more than 3 laps of the drive thru/one way system. A waste gate bleeds exhaust gases away from the turbine (driven) side of the turbo when a preset intake manifold pressure is reached, usually quite low (4-6 psi). Turbo lag can also be reduced by shortening the distance of the intake and exhaust manifolds.

BTW No.2
Tug, me celery runs at 600 now, no probs, but only if the heatsink is earthed to the case, weird. Im gonna get a multi meter accross the the case/hs to see if i can measure any difference in potential.

I canna find me books with definitions of turbocharged motor details but i can remember bits... like the wastegate actuator is a pressure operated diaphragm used to open the wastegate when boost pressure exceeds a preset limit - "X" psi or "X" bar depending on how you wanna measure it...

So the wastegate therfore is a control for the amount of boost allowed to the turbo. The wastegate redirects exhaust gasses away from the turbine wheel to control the boost pressure.

I found this bit on some webby:

'A dump valve releases the hot pressure out of the system when changing gear thus!
giving cooler charge through the system and allowing the turbo wheel to keep spinning up.'
