The difference between this site and other gaming sites is that the reviews , news and previews are posted on a forum. Making the site fully interactive. If you have any comments - then you become part of the article. Never has this been done before.
*cough*

Check the FAQ if you must

Ugly and are all the links meant to go back to VB?

Well the above post answers my question :)

+ Is that legal VB?
+ IS that F2S Free hosting?

Need to tidy up that front page, imo. Get rid of Times New Roman for a start. It needs to look... less cluttered.

A good start, mind.

Also, even though vBulletin isn't designed for this sort of use, I like the idea that the content easily encourages comments and (just maybe) debate. There's definitely potential here, just make that front page more attractive.

And wasn't that 'Pic of the Week' in our desktop thread?

it certainly was, it was just a test... it's actualy my desktop at the moment.

Thanks for all the advice... yes the vB is legal, and F2S is a free host, which I am using temporarily unitl I can find a good paid mySQL host.

Thought it was...what do you want to pay for hosting?

Never, ever say "Never has this been done before" when talking about websites. You just know that someone out there had exactly the same idea and has a site up with exactly the same ideas behind it.

he he...

I'll have to remove that before the lawyers come round ;)

I'm looking to pay about £50 a year for hosting. I was looking at host rocket, but I'm getting mixed reports on every hosting service I look at. So I'll wait 'til I get some kind of base of people veiwing my page everyday so I know how much bandwidth I'll need.

It's not only bandwidth you should look at since VB tends to have paddy fits on poor php/mysql setups....like f2s. If you're intending to create the site like you say you need good php/mysql support.

Yeah.... when more than 10 users are requesting server commands, i.e posting , f2s always gives too many connection error.

But, seeing as there are only like 5 posters at the board who ever post, that's not a problem at the moment :(

Peice of crap F2S :)

Any forum moguls around town that will give me money to get paid hosting  ;)

£16.99

Slightly out of my price range at the moment, I'm currently paying ADSL, Car Insurance, Halfords Bill, Petrol etc...

Pretty good. Ignoring hosting technicalities, cause you are planning to move host anyway, so there's no point dwelling on it.

Might suggest you make the font smaller on the news items and either choose a shade of grey that is darker or make it semi trans with an alpha blend to make it less, well, "burning".

Same goes for the font on the reviews thumbnails.

Also, could you not get those nav buttons at the top next to a smaller logo? otherwise you are half way down the page before you get to any useful content..

O

Hmm... the nav bars are at the top.. what res are you browsing in?

It's probably due to the fact that I optimised it for 1024 and above, well the nav bar bit anyway. That's something I've not yet tweaked, I actually forgot about it (thanks for the rimder)

I'll sort all other suggestions out now..... or try.

Ok.

I've tried to implement all the suggestions you made:

http://www.uncade.netfirms.com

I've also decided to host myself using Linux and Apache as I have my computer on 24/7... I was wondering if their are any good articles out there on the web that will help me do this.

Please if you think the site looks crap, tell me and tell me why also. I want to make the site look very nice and please most people.

You're a thief, and a plagiarist sir!

You claim that you [We] review Rez on the PS2, but the review is from gamespot. So is the serious Sam article, without even mentioning gamespot. Its all very well creating a template, but using dirty copyrighted work is just plain wrong!

I shun you, and your kin. And your domestic animals.

Also, the logo is horrid, and looks like a torrid love affair between photoshop, xara 3d, and a voyuer. Do something about it.

Also, you could stop the f'ing page stretching horizontally, thats pretty irritating, as little things go. I have to maximise it to remove the _ bar. Considering I'm at 1280/1024, thats quite impressive - in an provoking sort of way.

  • The logo is overoptimised
  • I get a JS error onload
  • Deep linking to other people's images is not on
  • Using other people's copyrighted work an claiming it as your own is illegal
  • First to allow commenting on stories - bullshit, everyone does that
Bottom line is you don't have any content - so why build a website?

Gah.. I was redesigning the site last night {puting everything in blue rounded boxes] and I was just copying and pasting the news items. I'll change that right away.

If you go to where the news is posted though you'll see that I always link back to the original article.

Damn-it, I've converted all the tables to percantages, but they still won't minimise with the window... I hate HTML

Looks a lot better, though.

I'd suggest replacing the logo and the 'about', 'forums' etc buttons so that it all maintains the same style.
