…by all these other people with computer problems.

So here’s mine:

An introduction:

MB - ASUS K8V SE Deluxe
Gfx - Ati AIW 9800 PRO
2 x 512 MB DDR 400 (running @ 333 because of some reason lost in the mists of time)
AMD 64 3200+ @ 2200Mhz
1 WD SATA HDD (OS on here) & 1 normal old HDD

The initial position:

Monitor going blank after a variable time period. Monitor power light constant, not flashing. Computer still operating underneath, as winamp still plays and can alt+f4 my way to a proper shutdown.

Theorised problem:

Gfx card overheating.

Proposed solution:

Clean it.

General overhaul is long overdue, I took all the bits out & dusted / cleaned them. Including re-silvering the CPU & Gfx heatsinks.

Pop it all back together….still fooked. Not only that, a day or so and a few reboots later we encounter the next problem…

BSOD:

Registry error. Check for HD Corruption. STOP: 0x0000007B, 0x85E2D030, 0xC0000032, 0x00000000 Inaccessible boot device.

Initial thought: fucked something up in the clean-up (highly likely)

Solution:

Format HDD, reinstall OS (Win2k).

Done….still getting blank monitor syndrome, but computer is working fine again.

Well….for a week anyway.

Last night we come full circle to the blue boot screen of agony again.

Solution:

Buy a new computer….can’t right now….shit!

Potential problems:

Got a virus?
Gfx card is f*cked?
MB is f*cked?
HDD is f*cked?
PSU is f*cked?

So….errrrr….please help

Thanks,

Ben.

Surely the graphic card or at a long shot even the monitor itself.

My thoughts exactly. Will nick a monitor from work to test that, but don't have a spare AGP card to switch in.

I just I want to be sure before spending any money, it's a bit tight at the mo.

New machine purchase planned for Christmas / New Year.

check to see if there's anything showing up in the logs mate. I had something similar while playing Oblivion, and it turned out one of my disks was failing. strangely, the XP systemlogs did indeed manage to tell me which one :)

Super, will do.

Just one question, how? And what should I be looking for (am using Win2k)? Ok, two questions.

Maybe try installing the OS on my other hard-drive and see what happens? Damnit, that's three now.

The reason I haven't just gone out and bought a new gfx card is because of the HD failure blue screen bit, it just seemed that it might be more to the problem.

Hi taB

The blank screen seems quite curious, but given the error you message you describe mentions 'Inaccessible Boot Device', I'd be tempted to focus on the hard drive and/or motherboard.

If you look for that phrase in your favourite search engine, then you'll find a Microsoft Knowledge Base article, and various threads at Tech Support Guy, Bleeping Computer etc., some of which suggest making a boot disc and using the tools on there to help you.

If that fails, I'd suspect your motherboard, but that's just speculation I'm afraid. Good luck!

Kind regards

Event viewer in Administrative tools in control panel should be a hive of information to.

Sadly can be a mixed bag of good information or garbled crap about a file you never even knew was there. Worth a look tho. :)

Cheers for all the help guys.

Have ditched the SATA drive for now, it's a pain and installed OS on an old drive. (Which included gems of documents such as a stats page for Tribes from the BW C&H server in 1999!)

Even running at 640 x 480 monitor was going on and off at intervals. Alcohol can solve this problem if I sync it so my mind switches off simultaneously :)

Other than that I'll have to spend some splash. Jism.
