discussing this with a mate, and being guys, we decided that if you had a clone and you gave it a wank, it would presumably be like giving some bloke a wank. however if your clone would give *you* a wank, it would presumably be like you were having a wank yourself, eg not as if someone else would be doing it. still, that remains debatable. we're not talking clone as in Dolly the sh33p, but as in exact carbon copy in all respects incl mentally.

Experience would have to be more defined for me to really answer that question, but most likely I'd go mad. If you can't turn the 'experience-link' off, that is.

For example: sight. If I have my clone's experience as well as my own, I contantly have two different visual images. It's not entirely unlikely I'd learn to cope with it after a while, but it's also not unlikely I'd never be able to.

Even less problematic experiences would be very weird though. What if I'm standing outside in cold weather, while my clone's sweating in a sauna: how would I feel? It seems an internal contradiction that I'd experience both the cold and hot sensation at the same time, but that's the premise of the thought experiment. One could think of endless variations on this experiment, which would probably end up driving me mad.

I would prefer it to be more like a gain of its knowledge rather than its direct feelings...so if it learn't the dictionary I would gain that knowledge as well.

There's a great David Brin book called Kil'n People, where the concept is you have disposable clones (dittos) and you reintegrate their memories every night before the clone expires. Basically it means you can stay at home on your fat arse while they go out and work for you, do the supermarket shopping etc. etc. One obvious benefit is they can go to war on your behalf...
