If you found someone's wallet / purse / handbag (etc) with cash in it, would you:

1. Leave well alone in case its a set up

2. Kick it to one side, throw your coat over it, and hover near it to make sure no one's waiting to pounce on you or claim it

3. Instantly pick it up, duck down a few side streets, nick the cash, and throw everything else into a trash can

4. Hand the whole thing untouched into a police station. The honest approach.

5. Nick the cash, contact the owner (lets say his or her driving licence is in there), and say you found their bag / wallet / purse (whatever).

6. Nick the cash THEN hand into a police station

7. Something else ?

CBA making a poll.

why take students cash? we are extremely poor as it is. take our cash makes us more poor. without no money and the risk of starving to death, wed apply for an emergency loan. where does that money come from? your taxes.

id hand a wallet in. lose money i keep.

If there's an ID inside, contact the owner. Otherwise turn it over to the police. That's what I hope someone would do for me if I lost my wallet.

I collect all the karma-points I can get so I can continue acting like a prick.

Take the cash as payment, then ring up the owner to come and collect it.

I lost a wallet with 40quid in it once and my NI and driving licence. I was hoping whoe ever found it would take the money and return the ID...sadly they took both and now my driving licence is probably ID for someone.

If I found a wallet I would take the cash and send back to the owner.

Previously i have given them back but i always saw who dropped them so was easy. Plus one guy who had a wallet with loads of cash looked like a Russian Mobster best not to steal from the Russian Mob imo :)

Old thread again...gees...poll about polls, wallet threads...you people getting desperate.

In any case...take cash, stick wallet into a mailbox somewhere down the street. Unless i saw who dropped it. The post will return it.

Worst case scenario, the police or the owner of the wallet think you stole it if they catch you with it.

First time when I found a wallet I was 13 years old, it had 800 skr which is about 85 euro, looked up who it belonged to and went by as he lived close and knoced on the door and told him I found his wallet. He grabbs the wallet, looks if the cash is there still, then slam the door shut in my face.

so learning from that experience I now take the money, then drop it in a mail box

Depends on how they looked.. (If they had ID etc) - Would most probably take the cash and drop it off at the police station or something. (Spend it first, ofc)

id probably take the cash if its like 20 quid and return the rest, though if its £30+ id just give it all back. depends though, loads of my mates drop phones and shizzle in clubs and no one has ever gotten it back.. i mean, cant u just get phones blocked, they are useless?!

Im wondering why marc is hating on students first of all

I'd either return it fully, or take cash and return it depending on my mood / amount of cash etc etc

I've found a few wallets in my lifetime, handed them into the coppershop. I've also lost a few wallets and had them returned everytime, treat people how you would like to be treated and you might be surprised.

Also might be surprised of how royally you'll get f*cked.

People are selfish bastards, jsut a fact of life, and there's less good then bad in this world.

you did not answer the quetion :p

i have found 3 in my time 1 wallet a purse and a bag with a wallett and clothes and phone in.

I handed them all in one way or another, the purse i got 6 bottles of wine sent 2 me by the bank where i handed the purse in, a week later the lady also sent me 6 bottles of wine.

was offered cash twice by the owners of the wallets i declined.

The day i picked up my wedding ring, we went to argos to buy an iron, i left my ring near a catalogue and did not realise until i was sitting down eating lunch. I traced my steps and some one had handed it in.

I am noy so much a karma guy, i just do what i believe is right under the circumstances. I also believe others will act the same.

If you meant me, i asnwered this before on this thread.

Anyway, on the second part, lucky you. You've actually avoided the less "friendly" types of people.

I'm sure Karma is out there, but has a weird sense of humor...really weird.. and she's got it bad for me, since i try my best to do good things, help others, whatnot(if not on own expense etc etc), and yet i've been royally f*cked by others, by life and by universe for the past two years.

"Be kind and people are kind." "Do good and it will be returned."

Just not how things work.

And just a couple of examples:

- Was the best friend, i helped with marriage problems, they even said i helped them fix their relationship...he tries to get it on with my girlfriend.
- Worked hard, long hours without extra pay, gave up a nice development thing to help a boss/co-workers to make a harder project work with my own expertise. Was told it wouldn't have been possible without me. AAA product. Get fired when the project is cancelled due to company cashflow problems. The other project, still rolling.
- Was a good boyfriend, never cheated, never will, attentive, etc, the nice guy. Get dumped, cheated on and on one occasion, out of the blue, just told on the TRAIN way back home, 300 mile trip..."this ain't working".

But you know what? I'm still gonna go on walking that nice guy avenue. But tell me life works like that, and i'll disagree.

I would return the wallet to the police with everything in it, couldn't live with myself if I ever stole something there would be an image printed in the back of my mind of an old lady/man who just lost a large sum of money due to me being a tit.

Only found a wallet twice, once with around 250 euro in it and the other time with around 50 euro, also I would never steal the money and see it as 'payment' for bringing it back to the people that lost it or to the police I would always see it as stealing.

If people want to reward you for bringing it back that's ok and I know you got some cnut's that will be angry at you eventhough you didnt touch anything in the wallet but for me there's no greater 'payment' than seeing people being overjoyed because they have all their money and papers back.
Never lost my own wallet and probably never will as I am very secure with it.
