I've been attacked by dogs twice, the first time it happened it had my hand between its jaws before I could do much and I freaked out a bit - I tried to pull my hand out, I still didnt want to hurt the dog for some stupid reason, I still have the scars from that one because trying to pull my hand out made the bites worse I think. I tried to use my other hand to force the jaws open but it just bit at that hand instead.

The second time the dog had my arm, but I wasnt as rattled, didnt pull back as I wanted to, instead held its snout with my other hand and pushed gently between the eyes and with my foot against its chest/neck area. He let go after a few moments luckily though.

No real wounds left from the second one now, both attacks were fairly close together, within a couple of years, I was 16ish at the time of the second I think, I'm now 23(today, yay!) and I only have small marks from the first attack left - the thing bit through my nail and split it in half, that hurt the most I think, only just recently has my nail on that finger returned to normal, two or three of my fingers got a bit mangled, in the winter my little finger on the left hand still seems to always be very cold and numb, even when the rest of my hand is fairly warm.

The first one was by a colley/golden retreiver cross, not so sure about the second, labrador or retriever or something similar to that, neither were the 'nasty' sort of dogs though

Strangely I still love dogs, and really dont have any fear of them at all, apart from the odd nightmare back when it happened, I still dont like the noise they make when they're attackig, but I dont think anyone does really my dad has a Chow called max that I really like, and my uncle has a labrador (I think?) which I really seem to get on ok with... well, it hasnt bitten my face off yet anyway

On topic: I know that if I had to I could get the thing off of me, I normally have a penknife set on my belt because its useful for when my bike fuxes up, and it has a small blade on there, if I really, really had to I could kill the dog to get it to let go, but I really wouldnt want to do that unless there was a good enough reason, and to me "ow, dog on my leg, ow" isnt a good enough reason

strangely enough your actually right there sonny jim, if you stick your finger up a dogs arse its mouth opens (don't ask how i know about this stuff) but its a reflex, a bit like when you stroke their bellies it makes their leg twitch is actually because they have ear mites.

Do you have to pull the blade though? With most pen knifes you have to put your nail into the little groove and pull it out. If you have to do that, I cant see it possible when the other hands being fucked up?

It's an American Staff, hence the pointy ears, something we imported to them before they started breeding pitbulls for there enterainment.

Two things to do if not in a total state of panic (which you would be), grip the dog under the ears very hard as this releases the lock jaw, or pull it's front legs as far apart as possible thus rupturing it's heart.

Might sound a bit harsh but as Ez says it's your choice
