I'm not surprised. Out of repression comes extremism. People haven't been allowed to calmly discuss matters for ages without being labelled racist, so have had their voices effectively taken away, and then add to that a government that pretty much runs itself like a dictatorship right up until the brink of an election, the only times where it even goes through the motions of listening to the voices of the public, and you have the perfect environment for it. I'm actually surprised that more people aren't turning to the BNP.

Exactly, Tory/Labour are exactly the same, even borrowing each other policies!

Lib Dems want to surrender us more to Europe, no thanks!

So thats the 3 parties gone, who else to vote for?

Im not Scottish so no SNP, BNP are racists yet more and more people are voting for them, especially after terrorist attacks in London and the race attacks in Bradford. And that bloke in Scotland who got murdered because he was white? Or maybe the black kid who got murdered in Beeston because he wasnt Muslim?

Don't mistake my understanding of why people turn to the BNP for support of that decision though.

I'm not sure how much of this you 'Engeralnd' people get to hear, but there is quite a bit more to the old 'SNP = Independance' thing.

The problem in Scotland is the proper politicians seem to die before they get to do anything cool.

Donald Dewar was a wonderful man, a good politician and a very good leader and was our first minister when everything kicked off, but sadly died just over a year in.

Robin Cook, who was a long serving member of the labour party and again a strong figure and good politician died. I believe that although he resigned in 2003, he may have come back to politics after a break...many had hoped he would lead the scottish labour party. Sadly that wasn't to be.

Another one may have been John Smith who died in 1995, an MP for North Lanarkshire...and an ardant supporter of devolution who may have gone on to lead the entire labour party instead of TB.

Instead of all these wonderful characters in charge, we have Jack McConnell who seems to have done a few good things in the background, but is not a charismatic man at all. He seems too stupid, too dim and too rehersed to be a proper leader.

In the SNP camp right now we have Alex Salmond who is a very outspoken, very patriotic man and another good politician who comes across to the people well. He seems to genuinely care for the people in Scotland and would be an excellent representitive of what we want. Jack McConnell seems too Westminster-awed to stand up for much of what we care about.

I wouldn't vote for independance if a refrendum came around. I think it's petty and silly...we should be coming together not drifting apart. But for a leader that looks as if he actually gives two fucks about Scotland?

SNP is a very strong choice. Been a labour voter all my life, but the wet fish we have leading the side up here is depressing.

Oh, don't get me wrong, i completely understand the whole nature of disenfranchisement and the rise of extremeism withink society. As i said earlier, Nick Griffen has played some very clever media games to pull in the right wing working classes.

However that still doesn't change the fact for me that i will always oppose people who support and condone bigotry on any level from any source.

I would prefer to persuade people as to the error of their ways, but in many cases this can't be done..

One of the things i love about this country is it's ability to avoid large scale exteremism, whether it be on the far left or the far right, for all our problems moderation has always seen through, however it doesn't mean we can stop being vigilent to try to stop parties like the BNP from getting in power. Hopefully this can be done through education though and refranchising the overlooked through education and opportunity, something which the present government is failing to do...

If i call saddam a **** it doesn't make me a mass murderer :)

I don't particually claim to be better than them, different and i'd hope with a more educated and civilised sense of entitlement and morality, but in a lot of peoples eyes I am a fuckwit too, i take that on board, that's life.

Except it seems a lot of schools don't wanna teach about the holocaust now as it might offend parents who don't believe it happened or some such :/

That very much depends on where you stand on the issue of social welfare. Educational opportunities and encouragement of everyone in society should be there though. If people decide not to take it then fine, but if it's not there then we have an instant social deficit.

My view on social welfare is that it should exist only as a helping hand, and not a lifestyle choice.

So you don't think that a decent standard of education should be offered to everyone? and that universal healthcare should exist, or that streetlighs should be provided by the state :)

An education is offered to everyone. I'm not sure of the standard of that education although I film in schools often. Judging by the spelling and grammar regularly seen on forums, I have my doubts.

Basic healthcare should be provided to everyone, but nothing more than that. People should have the ability to opt out of paying for it, provided they're happy with paying on demand.

Streetlighting is provided by local councils, not the state. And on that matter, streetlights are badly designed wasteful devices that ruin the night sky for all. They could be improved massively by a simple 50 pence metal cowl.

Schooling is variable and creates a lot of the social divide in this country. Good schools get better and bad schools worse. I don't know what the solution is, but it is a major problem and large swathes of the kids growing up today have been failed by the system.

What do you mean by basic healthcare? Just emergency services? No operations? That's a dangerous line to draw. + if the rich are allowed to opt out of paying for it, then who will?

The streetlighting is the classic example of the freeloader problem, whereby if it's not provided by the state in one form or another it probably wouldn't exist as people wouldn't personally pay for it as their thinking would be that somebody else will and they will still benefit from it.

I am with Tom on the Health care, with regards to the school if a kid really wants to learn he can. I do not blame the school system for the moron kids that do not give a fook about getting an education.

But half the schools in this country are substandard and falling to pieces whilst the other half grab all the best kids and get all the best teachers. The are bad kids who don't want to learn, but at the same time there are 1000's of bright able kids who aren't given a decent opportunity to elarn because their schools suck, and their teachers couldn't give a damn.

And as for healthcare, what do you both define as "basic" healthcare and how do you propose to fund it if everyone who can afford private healthcare is allowed to opt out of the system?

If I am being honest nothing is going to change with regards to our health service, could you imagine the grief when johnny no job who smokes 80 a day cannot get an operation because he has lung cancer.... oh the thought of it.

We are screwed :)

Schools need discipline, no more teachers being suspended till further investigation because they stopped some 15 y/o moron from being a twat. Lets give the teachers the right to demand respect in return for education, for those that refuse to be taught beat them with a stick or something I dont know.

The money he spends does not cover the medical costs. And considering he gets his money from the taxes I pay I object to him being alive.

For example, in the UK, the estimated cost of smoking to the NHS is £7 billion per year, however the estimated amount raised through taxes is around £16 billion per year (taken from Wiki)

So then, 9 billion in taxes is lost. Wonder where they will get that cash from?
