Every time a new MMO is released there is always the "what I have to pay for this? No way!" crowd; they complain for a while but then go back to playing runescape. Some people don't seem to realise that an MMO takes more money to run than a normal game, which is why it requires a monthly fee.

So true, I've played a few "no monthly fee" and if you wanna be able to compete in those games you actually have to spend a whole lot more at their item-malls that you can buy for real cash to stand a chance in the games

Maybe not all free games have stuff like that but the ones I've tried has had it.

Although I agree with your point, Shadowbane was released in 2002/3? Not recently anyway, and its failure had more to do with the terrible servers and stupid connectivity employed.

LOTRO has a niche' market and it was always intended thus, although it was adding the phat lewt to the game that drove me away. I don't want to play EQ 3 thanks very much.

The video looks hopeful, but not sure how cut scenes will work in a MMOG.
