I've become a bit bored of 24 and I'm not a fan of Lost but the grittyness and the acting in the Wire has spoilt me. What should I acquire on dvd next?
Sopranos & West wing spring to mind - oh and Rome was awesome too
Also David simon did another show before The Wire called The Corner (I think) and is currently working on a new show set in post Katrina New Orleans called Treme
thing about sopranos is the last ep, previous and the way some chars are dispatched suggest an epic showdown instead we ge tending best suited to the waltons.
Absolutely the best programme in the last few years IMO. Dark, gritty, brutal, honest and intelligent it doesn't really talk down to you, has some stunning performances (particularly from Forest Whittaker, Glenn Close and Michael Chiklis) and has one of the best multi-series plots I've ever come across. You absolutely have to watch it. It beats The Wire for me by miles in that it is both good drama and good attention grabbing TV. It may not be as high brow as the wire, but it's a lot more enjoyable and entertaining, without being mindless plot twists and explosions a lá 24.
