I've got this idea for a new server, which in essence is thesame as a normal server, except that at a certain point (say, level 20) you can choose to seek allegiance with another realm, this thru a small series of personalised quests, or tasks.
To avoid PvP type of action, there is a limit of changing allegiance for each character once every two months, so you'd have to wait two months to cross over to another realm when you just crossed with that character.

This would 'correct' the balancing issue, plus, it would be nice to see a Lurikeen Vlammen Vakten in the frontier :p

bad idea, the gank groups who know what classes rox would be unstoppable since they would all roll other realms classes. Imagine a hib pb bomb group with healer ae stun and reaver bomb...

proper punch up server...

how about a server with just the original mainland...no magic or spells and just one class that can train any skills as many as you like ( but only loons would choose more than 4) all able to wear all armours and use all weapons .
then in rvr then no more hiding and grp mezzing just mass combat as it should be ...i think it might be fun. but then again im just mad :drink:

Well, that idea isn't complete bollocks, it's quite a nice idea, but I think the entire skill system would have to be redone for it to work. Also, certain abilities such as stealth count in too. Also, mezz would be just as possible.. :)

true sadly - would be awesome fun, but i doubt this system would support that kind of setup without massive refurbishment...

That would be an awesome idea for a level 5 battleground zone though, so that everyone can have a try of all the different classes, just before they spec...

Or even as a level 1 training ground - have a new set of spells which basically emulate all the spec careers basic lines, and let em run wild for a bit...

You could make it so that different lines cost more points. Give everyone 100* spec points per level, then scale the cost of training a skill depending on the main class to use the spec.

Each spec point in a line would then be set to cost 100/(normal class's spec points per level).

For example, an assasin gets say 2.2* spec points per level, so stealth would cost 100/2.2 = 45 spec points.

You get to level 5 and have

200+300+400+500 = 1400 spec points

training to 2 stealth costs 2*45, training to 3 stealth costs 3*45 and so on.

A mage on the other hand normally gets much less spec points, so their skills would be more expensive. You would pay 100/(1.0) = 100 for those skills.

The level 5 char would pay

2*100 to get light spec 2 and 3*100 to get to light spec 3 and so on.

This should work out so that all the current classes get the same spec points as before.

There are some issue though. Skills like melee skills are held by different classes with different spec multipliers. Maybe have something like:

If you drop advanced armour (so you use leather), then you get cheaper melee skills. You could also add in that if you only use cloth armour, that you get cheaper magic skills (like make the default cost of magic lines 200* and have them drop to 100* (normal) only for cloth users).

Other issues are things like healing and buffing lines cost more points depending on class. OTOH, secondary healing class's tend to get less out of their healing and buffing lines. Maybe, it might be OK, "druid" nurture might cost 100/(1.0) for training as druids are a 1.0 class, "bard" nurture would cost 100/1.5 = 66 as bards are a 1.5 point class. Even regrowth is different for both classes (bard regrow won't give spread heal for example).

I think if you played around with it, you could make it so that all the current classes were possible and also have mixed classes.

The allegiance server already exists. It's called IRC-Excalibur.
