My mum bought a couple of IDE to SATA boards for her old HDDs. However, when they're plugged in, the computer won't see the drives. They're all plugged in properly and I can't figure out why the computer can't see them. She's running Win7 64bit.

Anyone got any ideas?

Some of the bridge's I've seen with VIA chips on them don't seem to work in anything newer than XP, however other than drivers, I'm not sure. Does Windows pick *anything* up, i.e. the bridge in device manager?
Also, do the boards have power connections or is it just the raw sata to ide?

Do as above.
Also check device manager, are the sata to ide listed in there. Any new unknown devices.
Disk Management. (rclick computer, select manage, last one on list) do the disks need intialising.

I guess it's because the OS isn't old enough. They have a power connecter on them, all plugged in properly. Nothing showing in Device Manager or Disk Management. Oh well, luckily she's got a SATA HDD as boot and a SATA optical drive. She'll just be stuck with the ribbon cable. Cheers guys.
