i10/i11 etc questions

I'm thinking of taking a break from my family and going to one of these events, problem is I haven't played online FPS games regularly since Quake3 came out and I wasn't very good even then.

Started playing UT single-player last night and realised just how crap I really was, but would I enjoy myself at these events ? I'm not into competitive play so I don't mind getting knocked out first round, but I don't cherish just being cannon fodder to l33tness all the time either in casual games.

Can someone give an insight into these events, particularly those who have just been to i10 ?

I'm also going to have to build a separate uber-machine for travelling ...

I10 was excellent, enjoyed it.

I'm not a great player, but there are always some good fun games going on that you can join.

i10 was boring and crap

The only exciting thing to do was the tournaments and once you get knocked out its boring as fux. Even in the tournaments the organisation is terrible, waiting up to 5 hours more than you should for games. Plus you have to take into account the high price....

The network isnt very good either... 30+ pings most of the time, I get that at home, and its cheaper

So you didn't play local LAN games inbetween tourneys ? Can you do that, or rather can you play casual games instead of competitions ?

I was sat in the other section (Berkshire Suite), we had some good games of UT, CS, JK2 and Q3A. There was always a newtwork game running, you just join up and get turned into a stain.

all you do is shout to the people sat around you, anyone want a game of <insert Game Here> and go for it. Very good atmosphere.

But I do agree about the Tourney organisation, that was crap.

and yes, you can play casual games as well
