It has nothing to do with it being mainstream. If it was mainstream, had a challenge and did not have all the kids (kids will be kids) trash talking everyone it would be fine. It's nothing to do with the popularity of it but the type of player that it attracts, devs will naturally aim for those that bring in the most money, those that don't pay for anything themselves.

So it has nothing to do with mainstream, but when MMOs go mainstream they're crap? :p

And at the same time saying guildwars sounds good?

The kids argument is a bullcrap argument though. Firstly because kids aren't the problem, it's aholes and secondly because it applies to anything where there's more then 5 strange people in the room.

You know exactly what I mean Toht, I cba to argue with you as its a waste of time.

Guildwars 2 sounds good because of the 3 enemies set up and it designed around pvp rather than pve like wow.

No i don't know exactly what you mean because you're contradicting yourself. First you say that MMOs went downhill when they went mainstream, then it's nothing to do with it.

The whole argument about devs only bringing in those who don't pay for anything themselves is just wrong, so it's neither here nor there.

Even if you're trying to say that MMOs went downhill because mainstream brought in the kids, it's still not valid :p

You jsut cba to argue 'cause you're simply put, wrong.

I said nothing of the sort. Where did I say it had anything to do with going mainstream?

What I did say was they went crap when they lost their challenge and their sense of community.

If you want an argument for the sake of one go elsewhere.

end of.

Oh i dunno, right about here;

I am sort of thinking that MMOs are pretty much dead for me now that they are mass market, there is very little challenge and the communities are full of kids using their mums CC for subs.

Not to mention the community hasn't gone anywhere, you just think it's filled with kids.

Probably haven't even played wow to any extent, atleast haven't tried to be part of the community.

Maybe YOU should go elsewhere if you want to start an argument. Afterall, you started the arguing, so deal with it. If you're going to argue, atleast say something that resembles truth.

And jsut incase you start with some bullcrap, here's your post.

The whole "Kids ruined WoW" arguement is just unmerited jibberish, yes there are people that sit and spam trade/general all day but no game with a zone or global chat is any different in that respect :) ignore them, problem solved.

Also they don't just cater to the ones that pay the most, if they did heroics wouldnt be as challenging as they were (talking about things like Freya hardmode, Mimiron hardmode, Algalon, Yogg Saron 0 keepers, Professor Putricide hardmode, Sindragosa hardmode, The Lich King hardmode) all of those mentioned were fucking norman hard when they were released and some of them still are, the chances of casuals seeing some of those dead are slim even at level 85. This is why the "Heroic" encounter system was created in the first place to apease both casual and hardcore raider :) the casuals would have normal modes which were tuned to be reletively easy and the hardcore raiders would have the hardmodes which were hard, some of them not so much as others but still the point stands.

i've played WoW since beta and when you find a guild of adults with strict age restrictions (which I have) the game is infinitely more fun than anything currently on the market.

The PvP is a 2 sided thing you either love it or you hate it (I hate it personally but then again i've never been much of a PvP fan) but I can see why people enjoy it (especially arena that has a huge ranking system across multiple servers) its very competative.

if memory servers there are quite a few daoc guilds that went to wow and became very successful aswell :) The Last Watch being a prime example, they went on to be the best on their server for a very long time and one of the very few guilds in the world to go through naxx in vanilla... if only Delket was still about he could shed some light on it.

I played WoW off and on from launch. I have 4 level 80s 2 of which are in full tier 8, mostly dropped armour which was the highest sets at the time I quit. None of it was anywhere near to as challenging as level 70 content let alone level 60 content. No, not played WoW much really at all...

WoW has always had a pretty shit community on the whole, guild chat was decent ofc because I was in a decent guild but region, trade and any pvp channels were full to the brim with knobs. I hardly saw any trash talk in the old days of DAOC, obviously there was some but it wasn't constant like in WoW, I believe this is a direct result of kids smack talking each other, surely no adult talks like that or finds any of the Dirge or anal <insert ability> even remotely funny?

And Toht. Mainstream does not necessarily mean mass market and vise versa.

Or what I should say is. A game doesn't need to have mainstream appeal to be mass market.

If you're tier 8, i don't doubt you were lacking challenge, but it's no different from any challenge that wow had before(or any mmo out there, ever). ICC on the other hand(anything past tier 9), without a well working group, no chance.

The community is not sh*t, no different from daoc trash talkers. Morons are everywhere, but they are not necessarily kids. It's a direct result of internet, anonymity. Blaming kids is usually an excuse as most "kids" i've played with, actually have half a brain compared to the elitist morons in games who act "adult".

Yes, there's a direct correlation of elitist jerks and kid comments.

Mainstream pretty much means mass market, atleast in the context you put it(completely ibnterchangable). Anyway, it doesn't make what you said any more true, it's still poppy.
