It has nothing to do with it being mainstream. If it was mainstream, had a challenge and did not have all the kids (kids will be kids) trash talking everyone it would be fine. It's nothing to do with the popularity of it but the type of player that it attracts, devs will naturally aim for those that bring in the most money, those that don't pay for anything themselves.
You know exactly what I mean Toht, I cba to argue with you as its a waste of time.
Guildwars 2 sounds good because of the 3 enemies set up and it designed around pvp rather than pve like wow.
I am sort of thinking that MMOs are pretty much dead for me now that they are mass market, there is very little challenge and the communities are full of kids using their mums CC for subs.
I played WoW off and on from launch. I have 4 level 80s 2 of which are in full tier 8, mostly dropped armour which was the highest sets at the time I quit. None of it was anywhere near to as challenging as level 70 content let alone level 60 content. No, not played WoW much really at all...
WoW has always had a pretty shit community on the whole, guild chat was decent ofc because I was in a decent guild but region, trade and any pvp channels were full to the brim with knobs. I hardly saw any trash talk in the old days of DAOC, obviously there was some but it wasn't constant like in WoW, I believe this is a direct result of kids smack talking each other, surely no adult talks like that or finds any of the Dirge or anal <insert ability> even remotely funny?
And Toht. Mainstream does not necessarily mean mass market and vise versa.
