I really hope CSE avoids a "headstart" in CU.

Don't like it in any MMORPG's, even if I'm part of one. In CU especially, since how the housing system will work, and the competitive nature of the game.

Be it 7 days, 3 days, or even 1 day, I don't want it. We should all start @ zero hour.

If everybody can buy into a headstart, it's effectively just a launch.
It means the actual launch will be no different than if somebody else cannot start at the launch but one week later for example.

That's the nature of MMOs. Everybody does not start at "zero hour" and "zero hour" could just as easily be a 'headstart'.

I don't think it matters...

I have given up starting MMOs on day 1, it just isn't worth the hassle of server instability and whatnot.

Staggering the start by a few days of head-start is not so bad, at least your not all competing for the same quest mob in the starting areas.

Headstarts are a none issue. They were put in place for multiple reasons, not just to let whoever pays first get a headstart but also for the following

1. Allows them to stable the servers out for official launch
2. Thins out the bulk of people hammering the login server on launch day
3. Thins out start areas so they ultimately arent zerged to high hell basically shutting down any sort of progress (won't be an issue in CU since its pvp based)

Not sure why headstarts are a problem really, people that play harder/put more effort in than the average person is always going to get ahead regardless of when they start.

I agree with BloodOmen.

The first hours/days will have server issues, might even be rollbacks like in DAoC's early days, who knows.

Myself for example won't be able to keep up with the hardcore gamers who can put 8+hours a day into the game. So a headstart or not wont make a difference to me.
And I dislike rushing, rather take my time having having fun on the way.

And if what MJ states is true it'll be a while before we even see any max level players.

So 1-3 days headstart is no biggie, in my opnion.

I do wonder if we might see something quite different to the normal mmo release since there are effectively no levels to grind?

I'm thinking it might be more like the test server we had before new frontiers came in with the free level 50s - lots of people trying different classes and exploring/trying things out.

I am willing to bet that headstarts willl matter more in this game than in standard games.

Using EvE as an example, if CU players can effectively "own" land then the guilds and alliances that stake early claims will have an advantage.

About the only thing I agree with about a headstart :)

Always nice with people that have a positive attitude and constructive feedback

On topic, for me it wouldn't matter much, either iam home off work and could play for 10 hours or 48 whatever it may be, or iam away at sea at work and so cant play, either way iam happy but wouldent mind a headstart if i were home.

I second the "It doesn't really matter" sentiment. If I get an hour a night after the kids are in bed, I'm ecstatic. Even if I get an extra week in advance out of the gate for being a backer, I'll be miles behind by the second day of launch. What appeals to me is that, regardless of how far I fall behind, I can remain competitive in RvR.

As backers we are more than likely gonna get some kind of early start, head starts are not a bad thing at all, will help with server load from the off.

You remind me of Guild Wars 2. Where by the end of the "Head start" we had our first Level 80. Another reason to dislike GW2 right there.

If within the first week, there are any max levels, regardless of how hardcore they play - the game has serious design flaws. It wasn't such a big deal in GW1 where LV.20 was max and didn't really matter to much, but in GW2, where the main thing to do is level up, it's shameful.

Since I usually have some kind of kid crisis/RL aggro going, I never manage to get on in the first 2 minutes of any head start anyhow...if I am on in the first 8-12 hours it's a good day, lol.

And since I am a girl, I am never going to be able to compete with the l33t gamer dudes that can pee in a Coke can. They will always be ahead of me. But, then, while they are building up their mighty reserves of uberness during every waking hour of every day, I will be sitting in my hot tub in the evenings, chilling with my boyfriend and watching the sun set over the cornfield. Thus everyone finds their own path to happiness. :)

Good game: you are going to enjoy it anyway, at your own pace. Badly-designed game: going to be a huge pain in your butt unless you claw your way to the top of the heap as fast as possible.

This is going to be one hell of a good game. So (for me) head start is a moot point, really. It's all good. :)
