in america they dont price custom plates like we do over here.

You request it at the dmv (?) by form or in person and they tell you if its acceptable and send it off afaicr.

So it could very well be real.

I saw the custom plate "wanker" in america. It did have a union jack next to it, so I suspect they new full well what it meant, although I doubt the people that issued it did.

There's nothing to say the person didn't go into a spare's shop and ask them to make it up for him and he just put it on his car for the benefit of the photo.

There's nothing stopping you from getting number plates like that MADE in england as long as you're not actually going to use them. I asume he did the same and just put them on his car to show off but took them off again straight after and put the normal plates back.

In the US, some states only require a rear plate, and you can put whatever you want on the front.

They look real to me.

I think in the US you can have any number plate you want.

You dont even need numbers as far as I am aware.

It's a bit lame having it though, I went through more of his webspace and he had pictures of his room covered with Star Wars figures in their boxes. Which explains a lot.

That's why Spike got away with saying that (and "Bollocks") so often in Buffy...they don't mean that much over there - they're "quaint English swearwords".

Actually since March the first this year a maker of registration plates has to see proof of entitlement to a plate and id for the buyer which is ridiculously narrow and strict.

Otherwise there is a way you can have THIS PLATE IS NOT LEGAL FOR ROAD USE added to the plate, but in very big and easily noticeable lettering. This has to be added even to plates saying Private, and Primrose Drive and things like that.

So the days of getting anything made up are pretty much over, unless you can find someone making hookey plates up, though they can face a massive fine for doing so.

One last thing, when you go into your local parts retailer and say, 'I need a plate to replace the one my girlfriend just cracked', please don't throw a wobbly when they tell you of the documents they need to see, it's not their fault, it's the fault of a beaurocracy mad government.

In certain states in America you can have pretty much wtf you want as long as no one else has it registered.

so it could be legit.

But its the internet so its a pile of bollox prolly.
