wuh? wha??.. how??

*gulp*

The A4 is a pretty good car, basicalyl very similar to a Passat. It's not perfect, the steering is a bit light, but all I'm trying to say is that by getting an older, originally more expensive car, rather than a newer, originally cheaper car, you will be saving money in the long run, and driving a far superior car.

Think about it:

Peugeot

or

Mercedes

Not much competition really.

Nice one :)

So what's involved in the theory test?

Being an old git, my test consisted of merely avoiding running down the chap with the red flag

I strongly reinforce the idea of not getting a typical first car! :)

When I passed my test I got an L reg Seat Ibiza 1.6 GLXi was very nippy, reliable and as people have already said it has the VW build quality (anything before Mk2 ibiza is dodgy preVW stuff). I paid at the time £1600 for it and 2 years later I got it part exchanged for a W reg Ibiza 1.6 for £1500 so I only lost £100 on it!

I also like A4s but its a bit big for 1 person and I have enough trouble reverse parking without more boot :D

i would really like a nice car but seriously, money is a big problem. my folks'll have to pay for all of this AND support meh bro at uni - then when i go to uni theyd have to sell it (my mum is about 2" tall and she seems to think that a big car would be heavier [im assuming power steering would negate that - but i havent actually driven yet :) ] )

i would like an ibiza though - i dont actually want anything too standard. maybe a golf (people my age seem to prefer smaller things; polos, lupos, 106s, saxos, puntos etc) or an old school mini (but done up so it looks good [no gay bumpers or owt] a nice paintjob and seats and stuff)

I want a Golf or Polo, don't mind which but preferably a Golf and I'd like it in black or red. But choice isn't really something I'll get the luxury of. I was coming back from Oxford with my Mum yesterday and we saw loads of Seat Ibiza's around and they do look nice, but dunno how much it'll set us back.

You mentioned power steering - I've learnt to drive in a car with power steering and it's lush. I don't want to go out in a non-power steering car really, but I doubt I'll manage to get one :)

£2000 golfs dont have PAS i think
and a brand new ibiza £8k (but that has aircon, pas, cd player player player player and is only the base model)

If my parents paid more than £2K on a car for me I'd be very surprised. I imagine I'll end up with a clapped out Nova :(

Most cars post 95 have power steering. Any polo or Golf for £2k will have it even the basic models.

Niiiiice. I think if I do get a car it'll be a Christmas present from my parents so how much say I'll get, I don't know. I'd quite like to have my Mum's car (Renault Clio, M reg) because it's in pretty good condition and we know about it, but it'd mean my Mum would have to get a new car when it's my Dad who needs the new car.

Does that make sense? fuck.

I thought NI had the same registration system as the UK? I know the Republic has a different system (which makes a fuckload of sense frankly, and is much eaiser to understand/remember) but I thought that NI cars had more or less the same system.

Big cars are no more difficult to drive than small cars. Parking in mine is a doddle, anybody who can't parallel park shouldn't be driving in the first place.

The first car I had regular use of was a Volvo 940, just about the biggest estate car you could get. It was dead easy to drive.

Meh old car

  • '93 L reg
    Electric front windows
    Sunroof
    PowerSteering

I think mine was the lost generation as the front of the car was slightly different to the newer models I saw around

The front of your car looks identical to my Dad's Vauxhall Cavalier. I thought it was a Cavalier for a second :/

What the hell is all this, "My parents may buy me a car for Christmas"

I used to get an apple and a Star Wars figure and be happy with it. Bloody people with bloody rich parents ;)

That was all a joke btw ;)
