Woot! Passed my driving theory yesterday. First time and with only 2 hours revision in the morning.

Oh, took it during my work lunch break as well :)

Come October I should be driving and running over little old ladies :)

Mine just expired. Gotta do it again before I do my test now :(

Wish I'd got this over and done with when I was 18.

Mee too, rusing towards 26 now, although that should mean my insurance will be cheaper.

Ok, I know nothing about cars, so it will be something with 4 wheels and an engine that looks nice and costs about 2 grand :)

hehe me is car-ignorant too. when I see one that I finally like (tdc finds 99% of all cars to be utterly tripe looking hunks of metal) my mates are quick to tell me it's a "naff girly hairdresser mobile". 9 out of 10 :/

Congrats mate, I'm learning to drive atm and it's actually great fun. I can't wait to pass and get my own car, I've only had six lessons or something so I've got a while to go yet but I can't wait :D

I actually haven't had any lessons yet. Just took the theory. I drove a motorbike for 2 years and have driven friends cars around car parks though, so I know how to drive. All I need is some proper lessons to teach me how to pass my test.

2 1/2 weeks holiday left = 2 weeks off in October to take lessons every day and take the test at the end of it all.

Having lots of lessons one after anouther like that is not a good thing to do. You may be ok as you said you know the basics etc, but for most people learning like that causes problems.

No mate you need proper lessons to teach you how to drive a car properly. A car park isnt the same as a busy junction in town and peole always forget motorway lessons.

At least you went the proper route tho and went on the bike first. I think everyone should have to spend 2 years on a motorcycle before being allowed to even sniff at driving on four to teach them road sense and defensive driving skills.

Will need a car for collage as public bus service is a nono :)

Hopefully i'll be taking after my dad and writing off a few cars in a few years. :D

Anyone car-ignorant looking into something newer should check out the SEAT Leon imo. I got one in March and I'm very happy with it. Very good all round car. It's basically a VW Golf, but it's a nicer shape, all round it's a better car and it's pretty cheap (well, relatively speaking) - it's several grand cheaper than the Golf.

The Ibiza also comes highly recommended. Last years "What Car Car Of The Year" and it's at an attractive pricepoint too.

/me receives commission from SEAT.

I like Ibiza's. They're fun! I drove a Leon R for a while, but the thing I had against it was good rear visibility...but I'm really really picky. It was a good auto that drove well :)

Taking the headrests off the back seats, as I did last week, improves this no end. It's also the most maneouverable car I've ever driven, and I used to work for a car reviews mag so I've driven a fair few!

There are tons of good cars you can buy for £2000. My advice is not to go for the usual small car (golf, fiesta, 306), but to buy an older executive car. Rock solid reliability, well specced (aircon power etc), still cheapish to run (you don't need to go to main dealer), and much more kudos then your average first car.

Those are some samples of what you can buy in the Manchester Area. Don't believe those people who say these cars are expensive to service, I've had an A4 for 3 years and it isn't. Fuel costs are generally not much more expensive than a 8 year old Golf (except the Jaguars lol)

oh aye, that's so indeed. thing is, it wasn't mine so I couldn't really muck about with it too much and get to know it. it was quite a quick car, for all it's bulk though. I'd have not minded keeping it for a few more months :)

yeah id like to but youve got to consider the insurance too? me being 17, the insurance for a 106 should be much less than for a BMW.

The headrests are there to help prevent you getting whiplash...

Edit, oh backseats nevermind fuck the passengers :p

Get your dad to insure it, and put you on as a named driver. I think you'll find that insurance for older exec cars won't be quite so expensive as you think.
