There is a smoking ban taking effect from 1st July.

Basically pubs, clubs pretty much any enclosed public space.

Well, the smoking ban hit finland on 1st of june.

It bothers mostly:

-People who don't smoke and smell the piss, sh*t and sweat about.
-Employees who now have to go otuside for a quick cig, watch the bar at the same time and watch that noone smokes.
-Some employees who got fired because there was less need for table cleaning.

The smokers? Loving it. Can get out of the bar for a while, socialise with other smokers out there, sit anywhere and not mind if it's smokefree zone or not, move more around the bar as you gotta carry your stuff around anyway.

I'm loving the fact this came around and bit the preverbial butt :D

I think what sux about the smoking ban is that they dont giv the landlords and other managers of public places the choice.

if a landlord wanted his pub to have smokers in they should allow to do so.i can understand total ban if in food places.. but ina pub/club is silly. bouncers on the door wil have to keep track on those who have paid entry fees. no doubt frustrations run higher due to not ale have a fag .. and imo in long run = more trouble .

Never understood this one, there are already non-smoking pubs. I have yet to go to one which smells like "piss, sh*t and sweat"

If they had put adequate ventelation in the first place it would never have become a issue, no sympathy for the majority whatsoever. The only ones i feel sorry for are the ones who forked out ot get said provisions for nothing effectively

Yeah, and those pubs rarely pack heat, 200 people, drunk people who are some hungover from last night(old booze smell), and don't have 30+ celcius sun bathing people, on three day festivals.

Ofcourse people who sit in a quiet pub, with 20 people and the place decorated to look like queen victorias a-hole, don't see the problems. Come 'ere, go to a metal pub and you'll learn.

And here's the reason why smokers can't stand the anti-smoking prigade. You are rather uptight and don't give a crap about the other side of the fence. It's only "me me me".

Doesn't make a tooting difference really to your health.

You smoke, you die of it or not. The "passive smoke" isn't such a big issue as people make it sound. Sure it's an issue if you live with a smoker for 20 years who smokes inside, but i've yet to see a case study where "Pub goer dies of cancer". A puff or two on your face(which you now get at the door for 100% centainty)won't make you suddenly drop down and cough out a lung.

The point being though, this law that was going to "help" bar personnel and the "hazardous" enviroment, now has cost people jobs and has made it rather difficult for the bouncers/barcounter peeps to do their job.

Well yes, if it's true, if you basicly LIVE at the pub(i'm thinking this is an old story from back in the day), you breathe so much stuff that it might effect you. Need more stuff, age, place, etc.

Also ventilations these days are better then the joints back in the day. Back then cigarsmoke filled the room basicly.

Also there are plenty of cases of "died of lung cancer, never smoked" and every time someone hears they have lung cancer they go all shocked and say "but i don't smoke!" followed by "Damn passive smoke!". Like it's the only reason.

Has been like this for ages in Ireland, it is actully quite nice to be able to sit down without choking on smoke! and in about 3 months the pubs will find the loop holes and just set up areas with retractable roofs, set it to cover a certain % of the roof then claim as its not fully roofed technically its not enclosed!

Its more to do with walls than roofs, something along the line of if there are 3 walls then its an inclosed area

haha quality!

They already have an upstairs terace at the local wetherspoons we sometimes go to. I think they should ban non-smokers from enjoying the on the roof pissed feeling.
