I finish work at 4.30pm on 11th June and start back on at 8am on Monday 28th June. The past 2 years I've went for 4 nights or thereabouts in Prague, and loved it, but am looking for something different this year.

My budget is around £400 for flights and accommodation (spending money goes on top of that), so it looks like 3/4 nights in a city, or a week or thereabouts in the sun.

I'm looking for suggestions and ideas. Ideally I'd like somewhere warm/sunny (not necessarily beachy), with interesting stuff to do and see within walking distance.

Near the top of my limited list at the moment are: Barcelona (for the city type thing), and Malta (nice and sunny and packed with history).

Iceland. Its got everything, including lots of partying Scandanavian women.

Seriously though, where else can you drive up glaciers, bathe in hot springs, and party with attractive women?

I'd suggest Cuba, last holiday I had I stayed in, we made our own entertainment in those days, of course. I had a knife, and an owl, and I was happy!

Ahhh... Cuban women.... brings back memories.... :D

£400 won't get you to Cuba but you can always rob someone so you can afford it.... ;)

Iceland's a bit expensive though.

I'd advise going to Salamanca in Spain. It's a university city with lots of students (and the things that come with them, like cheap eateries and condoms). From the city you can go further into Spain, or even Portugal!

Egypt. Bloody hot and sunny.

All the history lark if you are into that. Or if you are more of a beach/sea type of person Sinai (sp) peninsula.

Loadsa good ideas so far... keep 'em comin'

I'm a bit of a shitbag really, and will be travelling/staying alone, so I think I'll err on the side of caution and avoid Islamic countries like Egypt. Even if I could afford it, I'd gives the USA a miss too.... I reckon I'd either end up in Camp X-Ray or shot in a bar for drunkenly mouthing off against Bush, fat Americans and the USA in general.

I've never been to the Republic of Ireland, but that's on the cards for later in the year, as a friend of mine is building a huge 5 bedroom house in Galway.

Salamanca sounds good, as does Rome, Madrid and Barcelona, although, as I said, I went to Prague the past 2 years running, and hanker for a non-city holiday.

Some deserted greek island somewhere.

No city, (or much electricity tbh), beaches and sun.

This is precisely my plan for next summer in my Shiny Elise, I know Throdders, four wheels bad, etc. but I am not yet converted.

Only problem is I haven't got the car yet, and have 9 months of desperate saving to go, but it's something to aim for.

My idea of relaxation didn't include gangs of 20+ begging kids who FOLLOW YOU EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME YOU ARE THERE.

Ruined the 3 weeks I spent there, it was fucking depressing.

Iceland - nice, FAR too expensive.

If you like Prague how about checking out Estonia/Latvia/Lithuania, same kind of vibe, really cheap and VERY friendly. Lots of places doing trips especially to Estonia and no I'm not biased Sicko :p

Other places I'd consider are Gotenburg (Sweden), Denmark, Barcelona, Berlin, St Petersburg, Budapest, Croatia.

/edit: Personally...I leave for Toronto on 30th June \o/

I liked Danmark when I was there for a short while last year. Never buy beer at an outdoors bar, get it at a 7/11 or other shop! Yes, I'm a cheap ****, but it was a budget mini-hol ;) We didn't know about the beer/shop stuff till the third day though :/ 9eur for a beer was harsh man, harsh.

Danmark '03 pics here. There's even one of ickle me in there somewhere.

I've opted for a weeks all inclusive holiday in Costa Brava (a place called Sant Feliu de Guíxols). It means I can soak up the sun for a bit by the pool or on the beach while catching up on a bit of reading, and yet gives me the option of nipping to Barcelona for a visit during the week (It's only about an hour away).

The flights and hotel come to £323.90, which I think is bearable for an all inclusive holiday for a single traveller (usually you see a nice well-priced holiday, fill in the details on-line and watch the price double when they wack the single supplement on). On top of that I paid £18 for transportation between the airport (Barcelona) and the hotel.

Just a quick update to this to say that I'm now back from my holiday. It was pretty good. The only negative thing was the bus transfer from Barcelona airport to Sant Feliu. It took over 3 hours (both on arrival and departure) as we crawled through various resorts between Barcelona and the town I was going to, either dropping off or picking up people respectively. But it did give me a chance to confirm that I'd selected the correct destination. Lloret de Mar and Margrat de Mar (2 of the places the coach dropped off) look absolutely disgusting. The place I was in was just a nice, quiet Catalonian town where most of the tourists appear to be Spaniards taking their holidays. Nice and relaxing, and I took a day to go to Barcelona too. Barcelona is nice but it's just a wee bit too big. In Prague everything you'd want to see is within walking distance.... in Barcelona walking just isn't an option.

Where I live people would probably buy you a beer for that...
