The cats are in the backpacks so is it 7 children x 2 legs = 14?

Is this definately correct? In Die Hard 3 he says "As I was GOING to st Ives I met a man with 7 wives etc etc". The trick is the extra people do not come into the equation.

your one is something like 7 to the power of 4 I think?

oldest riddle in the book :)
Its always 1! me!

Err I cant remember :E
just did the 14 legs from the kid,
49x7 for the amount of cats, then multiply that by 4 for the legs.
Amount of cats multiplied by 7 for the amount of kittens, multiplied by 4 for the legs, add em all up I think

my little notepad says
1372 - Cats legs
14
9604

So i did that somehow :)

7 kids => 14 legs
49 backpacks (7 kids *7)
343 cats (49 backpacks*7) => 1372 legs
2401 kittens (343 cats*7) => 9604 legs

14+1372+9604 = 10990

(somebody else prolly posted before this, oh well :) )

9604

Kittens have 4 legs so thats 7x4=28
7 kittens per cat, that's 28x7=196 iirc
196x7 cats = 1372
1372 x 7 sacks = 9604
+ 14 legs from the humans = 9618

Wouldn't the question be how many legs does the bus have then? Its either that or its stupidly worded :)

Aye, but it's "how many legs are ON the bus", and i doubt anyones on top the bus so it's 0? :D

Only thing you can be sure there, by the way, is that there's atleast 7 kids and a driver on the bus. Unless it's stationary.

As it's not said they have the backpacks on them, or if the adult cats have the kittens in the backpacks too.

I agree with Levin(sorry Bahu :() after seeing his calculations!

First I got some uneven number, but wtf? One of my kittens only had 3 legs or summit? xD

If I was on a bus with 7 cats who had 7 kittens each, fuck the maths I'd be trying to build an army!

What would you do to my three legged kitten then? Surely it's not tough enough to help you conquer the world? :/

Well if it isn't "a bus has wheels not legs" i'd reckon

7*2 = 14
(7*1)*4= 28
(7*7*7)*4=1372 (as each bag holds 49 kittens)

So all in all 1414 legs

Or,

7 humans
7 cats
343 kittens
= 1414 legs

It has 7 adults in each not one, sorry. Misread

343 kittens
= 1582 legs

Crappy question really, obviously badly worded as well, probably (poorly) based on the old English riddle "As I was going to St.Ives..." which goes...

As I was going to St. Ives, I met a man with 7 wives
Each wife had 7 sacks
In each sack was 7 cats
With each cat was 7 kittens
Kittens, cats, sacks, wives, how many were going to St. Ives?

Someone will hopefully work it out before tomorrow, if not i'll post the answer then :p
