Sorry calling a person a "thing" is obviously appalling, but as far as the point of being granted British citizenship when you cant even speak the language, well, I think that is disgusting.

Throw all the english speakers out of wales! Kill all the english in northern ireland! etc etc.

just plain wrong imo

edit: Rather reminiscint of what america went through at the turn of the century with its rather racist policy of immigration. Do we (yet again) wish to follow them?

and on another note, is he a member of the BNP?

He was banned from BW for (imho) far more racist stuff than this.
I have been watching the thread and atm, it looks to me, like a reasonably sensible discussion on British immigration laws and peoples views on immigration.

It's only a good point if he came up with it, and can justify it.

Im not a racist in any way shape or form. I live in an area of Crawley where there is maybe as much as 40% asian population. Its called Langley Green, or LangleyDesh by the less enlightened members of this lovely town :/
Its where them lads came from who have been arrested for bomb making equipment recently, that was the next street actually.
Nothing makes me happier to see asian kids walking down my street wearing England football shirts. Why ? Because they are english , they were born in england, they live in england, they contribute to the country they live in. Its about being inclusive, not exclusive. The whole policy in this country of multi-culuralism is imo flawed in many ways. We should be trying to work harmoniously with all British people of whatever race or ethnic origin, but NOT by encouraging them to not even bother to learn the language! Again, thats not inclusive, thats exclusive.
Oh , and Munkey mate quote - Throw all the english speakers out of wales! Kill all the english in northern ireland! - unquote, thats because they live in wales ...

I don't know that they do have different opinions about immigration, that's not the point I'm arguing.

Well, Im kinda split down the middle on this. Married to an girl of ethnic origins, but she was Born and Bred in Scotland.
What really gets me is the open arms policy that the Government seems to have in welcoming these people. If they were are the cermony (not sure what it entails) but they should at least know what is happening and understand what is being said in English. to me it just seems like taking the absolute piss.

It seems OK to have an opinion, as long as it's PC or non-confrontational. The asian in question has no right to be here imo. Not particularly because of his colour, but because the twat has shown no desire to integrate in to our society, although I'm sure he's happy to reap its financial benefits over the shithole he probably came from.
There are levels in between being PC and being a member of the NF or BNP, not everything is black and white.

I think we should have a similar thing that America (gosh!) has. A pledge of allegiance of some sort, and a minimum level of english spoken etc. That's for immigrants, not asylum seekers natch.

edit: Also, yuck I wouldn't put it how you've put it - but I'm agree on some levels. Integration should be a requirement to some extent - see above. What got me riled up was the idiot calling this pakistani fella a "thing" and a few things that bunnytwo has said. "If kids get taken to mosques, show them the full nastiness of islam" etc.

Karum's not the most eloquent of spekers but I do agree it's outrageous to grant someone citizenship when they can't even speak the language.

Surely it's a sign of respect if nothing else? It's like saying "I don't give a fuck about you or your country's culture but I do quite like the NHS and the benefit's system which is why I'm really here in the first place. k thnx."

It pisses me off that we're so worried about hurting people's feelings these days. It's not a race thing either. I've as much resentment towards those sort of people as I do towards the sponging layabouts who are professional "job seekers".

FS Tony you knob head, you've screwed up this country. Michael Howard's got the right idea.

Actually, scratch that I think it's more than likely everyone's worried about getting sued. I forget the figures but basically every area of public service is getting more and more of it's budget taken up by the "sue" culture. The police are sued, the council's are sued, the hospitals are sued.

In some cases people are quite just in wanting compensation but it's incredible the figures people are getting these days.

I read a story in the paper today about a kid who got paralysed when a faulty gun someone else was handling went off and shattered his spine at the neck. A tragedy yes but accidents happen when you fuck about with guns. So he gets over 13 million in compensation which in turn bankrupted the company and makes god knows how many minimum-wage workers out of a job. I'm fairly sure being paralysed isn't much fun but then I'm sure the hundreds (possibley) of workers he made jobless have very little sympathy for him right now.

hmm, personally I think that reading/writing and speaking the local language to a moderate level should be mandatory for all peoples. I also feel that the person should have some idea of the local culture and values. Allowances should be made though, for childeren, the elderly, people with disabilities etc.

I had a neighbor once, and the fellow couldn't speak a word of dutch though he had 40+ years of living in holland under his belt. Nice bloke though, always spoke to me quite cheerfully whenever we met (though tbh I never had any idea what he was on about).

several of my english and american friends often complain that learning dutch is hard in holland, because the dutch instantly notice your default language and speak to you in english. I suspect this can be quite annoying at times but the dutch tend to be proud of their language skills and like to practice them (as anyone would). in school you get the chance to learn english, french, german and dutch (latin and greek too sometimes) until you either specialize or drop non-mandatory languages after a certain class, and thanks to the influence of television and music everyone can speak english with reasonable skill.
