My new TFT monitor is here, very nice.
It goes with my new black Logitech keyboard, and black Icemat 2.
I now have that watercooling thing in my shuttle now, its mucho quieter, but it only makes me notice the hard drive noise more! I also have put a Zalman GFX heatsink thing on my GF4. If you needed tips about it, DONT BUY IT. It's bloody useless, as it doesn't cover the chip properly. Ah well, at least it works on BF1942 :)
... And the Shuttle PSU randomly turns my computer off. I have no idea why, but I gotta assume it's faulty.

My other recent purchases were a new case for my mobo and AMD XP 1600+ to go into. A wubly silent Thermaltake PSU to go into it, and tat Zalman Flower thing without the fan. D'ja know what I'm talking about? Yeah, my CPU runs at 95DEGREES. Bloody hell. I think the Soltek 75-KAV motherboard monitor must be wrong. The air from the PSU fan doesn't seem that hot, and it's position right above the flower, with a fan sucking the air up and out.

Wooo.

So if anyone can give me advice on that PSU crap or maybe make my thermometer work properly, I would be happy and grateful.

Bye!

My computer is lying on its side, case open, floppy drive hanging off one side, on dirty old floorboards, surrounded by dust, underneath a table with coffee stains and crisp packets strewn around.

But it plays games and things.

Just thought I'd tell you that.

Fan from the Zalman cooler should be blowing DOWN onto the CPU. That may well be your problem.

Damn right.

Forced convection is always a far more efficient method of cooling a heatsink. With the flower, the effect is going to be even more pronounced. All you are doing, with it blowing upwards is moving air from somewhere near the heatsink.

Turn it around, quickly, unless you want to cook eggs on your cpu.

So you've got the fanless zalman flower.... on a ATHLON (when iirc its designed to be used on the p4, as the amd version utilises a big fan)

and your trusting a fan inside your psu to cool it.....

:eek7:

Well erm, cook me a bacon sarny on that cpu will you? I like mine crispy.

Buy the fan for the cooler and fit it blowing directly on to the cpu. Do not rely on the psu fan unless you want your processor crispier than i like my bacon.

Hehe, the PSU fan was the one doing the sucking and pulling.
I didn't have the other fan on because, frankly, it makes too much noise. The whole reason was that I didn't want noise. Teehee, I'm a spack. Anyway, I was reading on some websites that my CPU (AMD Athlon 1600+ Thoroughbread Whatjamacallit) was 'safe' up to 90 ^little-o C. Yeah right :ROLLEYEYSS:

I'll put the fan on it anyway and move the computer to another room. I just found out that my wireless router takes crossover cat5 and I have like 50m of that. So, right, I'm using my wireless router as a normal router; I've snapped an arial off one of my wireless adapters; my CPU is like a frying pan...

Do you think that the CPU temperature thermometer is reading the wrong temperature for some reason? The fans were really not blowing out out air and the heatsink didn't feel as hot as 95 degrees.

PS. HAY TOM R U USINGZ DIS BORED AS A BLOG 2??

But at least I got both my 160GB drives working huh?

No, the boars is most likly reading the temperature of the core or on older motherboards under the cpu. You wont feel any hot air because theres no air passing over the heatsink so theres no conduction of the head only radiation

there should really be some blowing over the heat sink...

if you put your hand next to a fan can you feel it sucking, no, but you will be able to feel it blowing

Can you see/feel the air that you're breathing?

If in doubt as to the direction of airflow, a piece of paper does the trick.

hours of amusment

Can you see/feel the air that you're breathing?

(and no i can't see it, exept on cold days)

i was just making a point btw, no need to get all exited

My point was that even though you can't feel it sucking, it doesn't mean it isn't.

you'd be able to feel the air flow, like you can on the other side

the sucking is very short range and weak
