I use T-bird atm for mail, although I do have one niggly prob with it:

Images in mails - they won't show up at all! All I get is a blue box surrounding a placeholder.

Any ideas how to fix it?

that should fix it wierd.
The reason they put it like that default is because spammers will include images that have a unique name, one you open the mail you download the image, they know what unique image was in linked to what email address and thus know if the user opens the mail, or not and thus if its a good target for further spam

Sar, I had that with one of the versions of t-bird, fixed when I updated to one of the newer versions. I still get the place holders, till I click the "show images" button for each individual mail.
