I slept through the hurricane in '87, even though one of the oak trees in the field behind our house fell over and took half of the conservatory with it.

I just woke up about that time (wasn't aware enough to be able to make sense of the red digits on my clock) because the bed was moving around for about 20 seconds or so : assumed it was some heavy footed bastid coming up the stairs (new house, so the walls are like fucking bog roll). Didn't realise until the news thismorning that it was an eathwotsit.

I remember feeling one before as a kid in a caravan up Lake District way, only a tiddler though. Mind you, they aint exactly commonplace here in the UK. Earthquakes in the UK are like good singers in Germany : simply non existant, at least until you wake up.

I live (too) close to Bedford and never felt a thing, infact I was sceptical about it at first

Some old codger across the road whinged about his "antique" picture being destroyed because of the 'quake.

Bring on the next one :D (im betting/hoping for 7+ on the Richter scale)

Miles, yer about 10 miles at most from me then (Rushden). As i said, it woke me. Different houses will affect things too : i'm in a brand new house (well, construction finished last august), so the external walls are made with corrogated cardboard and interior walls are made of bog roll (not even the tracing paper quality), so a curry fuelled fart from the neighbour 5 doors up gets felt.

My nan however is in a 17th century cottage near Kettering. Walls are 2 foot of stone internally and externally. She felt it tho :|
