I don't get transport help because my mum works?!

I've applied for transport help as my school is a good ~8-9 miles away and with the status of my split parents etc., it's going to be hard for me to afford travel (£40-60 a month).

Unfortunately, my application was denied because my mum receives working tax credit. For those of you unknown to what it is - its basically a tax credit you get for working.

If my mum was UNEMPLOYED and sitting on her arse (which she doesn't do) - I would receive transport help and I would receive free meals etc. etc.

I am outraged at this bollocks and I am about to make a complaint to the lady who denied my fuckin application.

To me - it seems that we all need to just get unemployed because that way, the council will pay everything for you.

/disgusted.

Well, it's also in place to protect people taking money when they don't need it.

To the government, it seems like your mother could pay for it and as you're a minor, should.

I can see the logic there. Even if it doesn't work that way in action.

There's 4-5 regulations you have to pass - each based on wage and earnings etc.

I won't tell you how much she earns but let's just say she could earn 2.5x as much and still qualify for aided transport - as long as she was unemployed.

Why don't they investigate each frickin claim uniquely instead of saying 'mmmm k, you receive this - we don't care.'

I never got transport help at your age (Parents divorced and not living together) :) Took me two trains to get to my school. Deal with it. I guess my mum never had problems giving me £50 a month for something that I needed.

one tip, get a full check up of your teeth about 2 months before your 18 and get all the work done for free.

Cos £120 for a filling is not cool ;d

Well, it's not the doing the 1500 lines.. It's more, doing 1500 of them then wiping the entier table without having a backup.. So therefore doing 3000 :( Makes me sad.

pooned, I like writing 800 lines of code and having to trawl through it because for some reason i can't see the missing ; even though I know where abouts it is and that it's a ; i'm looking for ><

o_O Doesn't the IDE you use (Please say you use one:() tell you the line it's usually missing? When I pissed around with C the IDE I used gave the exact line.

I don't use an IDE as yet, I use textpad, which does show the error line.

Because then they would have to pay people to assess individual claims. In this day and age they would also need an army of lawyers to deal with all the people that got an answer they disliked and sued someone. They would then need to pay Judges to actually decide the outcome of the lawyers fights.

At the end of the day you would still be unsatisfied with your answer of.. "I'm sorry we can't give you transport aid because we spent all the money on the above."

You'd receive free meals and transport help sure. Want to swap them for your computer and internet connection, which you probably wouldn't be able to afford? Getting stuff for free sounds great until you realise quite what you have to give away before you start getting the free stuff..

Yer, if you do Bugz you can't really complain. I mean, I get £30 EMA per week, and £18 a week from my horseshitofajob.com, and I pay £55 per month for travel to college. And as far as I'm aware, you have a better payed job than I do at present.

My EMA will just about cover school meals and my train fare.

However, once anything else comes into play: namely school shoes etc. - I'll be burrowing into my own pocket.

I think people miss the point I'm trying to make here. I'm not so much as bothered about being denied it but more so the fact that it's because my mum's employed rather than unemployed.

Thats the way the welfare state works, it's been like it since conception so you won't change it.

Well, that's to ensure that the money goes to those kids who don't have parents who could pay for stuff.

It's rather logical, and i know, government departments are a b*tch at times, but it's how the ball rolls in ALL aspects of life.

You have to look at it from the offices point of view, as much as you have to look at job things from the employers point of view when you feel "wronged".
