I can't ask this on the OCUK forums, so...

Does anybody know why OCUK have taken the money out of my account despite the items being out of stock? They've also overcharged me. And I can't get hold of them on the phone, it just keeps ringing endlessly. My experience with most companies online is that they don't take any money until the item has been shipped but according to the order tracking system it's not even been printed off yet.

It's infuriating and I can't even fucking email them :/

It now says the number is temporarily out of order, so I'm going to go and cry somewhere.

Used to use ocuk alot but I have heard a few dodgy things about them recently.

The main problem is that they won't part pick an order so if what you ordered is out of stock, they'll take the money and wait for the whole order to be in before sending the order out.

It can be a right pain dealing with them, I get my gear from other places now as a result.

I'm having a similar situation with them. Ordered a monitor last Tues which was going to take 1-3 days to get in stock. They took the money on Weds and now their webpage says 4-7 days in stock and I've heard nothing. I'm deciding whether to chase them about it now or not.

It's a shame because I'm saving myself a fair bit of money buying the bundle via OCUK but unless they sort it out quickly I'm having my money back, please thanks.

Finally got through after holding for about ten minutes :|

The motherboard and memory is supposed to be back in stock today, so unless I get an email telling me it's been shipped by 5pm tomorrow, you can go and duff 'em up for me Trem.

I would avoid buying anything from a company that does this. Its a sure sign that they are experiencing cashflow problems

Companies that take your money immediately IMO have cashflow problems.

All I can say is that I went in last week and you couldn't get through the door for customers.

One weird thing is that they claim on their front page
Overclockers UK said:
Overclockers UK have built an enviable reputation over the last 5 years as the leading supplier of performance computer hardware in Europe

but you check their financial records and their current company was dormant (i.e. not trading) until at least 30 Apr 04. So therefore there must have been a previous company who transferred the business to the current company which has only been trading about 6 months. Now why the previous company sold/transferred the business is unknown but doesn't inspire confidence.

I rang on Friday and spoke to a fella there and he said that the bundle I'm going for (this one) is popular and due to Christmas they've not had much stock in, so combined with the amount of orders they're getting and the demand then it's inveitable they're going to run out of stuff occasionally. I don't mind this and understand entirely, it's something we had to put up with over Christmas and New Year where I work as well.

What I do take exception with is them taking my money whilst the item(s) are still out of stock, it's bad practice if you ask me. And you've all made me paranoid now.

P.S. They don't accept emails anymore due to the sheer volume of them - what a surprise, an internet based company getting lots of emails - and they're redoing their phone system so they can deal with stuff more efficiently. Which is nice.

The boss should stop buying ferrari's and get more staff in, though I must admit OCuk have normally been good to me except for taking 2 days to process my last order even though it was in stock :m00:

something to note

15.05pm - NEW TELEPHONE SYSTEM - Our existing telephone system is being replaced during the next few weeks with something far more appropriate for the volume of calls currently received. This will be welcome news indeed for those customers who have had to endure the present system over the last few years and I apologise for any inconvenience caused. It was bought at a time when call volumes were less than a fifth of what they are today and I for one will be glad to see the back of it. I shall keep you informed when the new system arrives.

It was called Millenium Computers before I think.

As far as I can remember they have always operated this way. I used to use them a lot but once they started to remove telephones as they said they could email instead, I thought that customer service had left the building. I go to the PCWorld component center now. They always seem to have stuff in.

Komplett.co.uk always seem good as do ebuyer...

I use aria normally - they tend to beat the rest on prices and are very approachable. They can be a pain to get hold of when things don't work tho.

komplett, aria, scan.co.uk, ebuyer and ocuk are my 5 usual pricecheck sites when buying components. :)
