7/10, got tripped up by the "is Hilary a boy or a girl" one but otherwise was wrong by way of guessing because I didn't have a clue.

If you can understand what someone has written then their grammar is sufficient.

Everything beyond that is pointless.

I had 5 after 6 questions and then I did not understand a thing and just guessed. All guesses went bad tho :(

8/10 Grammar Guru

Correctly guessed one of them though. I've never heard of a gerund or whatever it was, and I didn't understand that gender one

Number 3 is complete bullshit

Funny. I got that right.

It says: Benedict, my brother who doesn't.... - implying you have a brother who does.

Not: Benedict, my brother, who doesn't.... - which says Benedict is your brother.

Anyway, 7/10. :(

Agree, their grammar is terrible, always putting 'to' instead of 'too'. I see that all the time

It could also imply that 'my brother who doesn't' isn't Benedict, therefore he would be the second brother.

Not true. Taken in context it states that Benedict doesn't live in Madrid:
I'd like to introduce you to my sister Clara, who lives in Madrid, to Benedict, my brother who doesn't, and to my only other sibling, Hilary.

Read it through logically and it's clear there's a sister who lives in Madrid, a brother who doesn't, and another brother who's whereabouts (or lack thereof) isn't even mentioned.

7/10. To be honest unless you're going for a degree in English you don't need perfect Grammar. I'm a bit of a pedant but only for correct spelling and placing punctuation so as to negate any misleading conclusions.

8/10 - I'm embarrassed as some of those questions were awful!

Five is silly. Semicolons should always be followed by what could be an independent sentence. I don't think "Zimbabwe and Zambia" is.

As the opening page says...there are no hard rules and everything is up for interpretation...then they say you are wrong or right.
There are no rules..just convention and fashion.
These things change to allow language to develop alongside technology..and they are holding onto the past in the face of a tsunami of change...no surprise here..snobbery FTW.

7, but I was really digging around for stuff from my A-levels (like "gerund") that barely anyone cares about these days.

Somehow dun got me an eight!!!!! No clue what some of the terms ever were. Some were fairly easy and some required a bit of saying the sentence in my head to see how it would change but overall who gives a shit? As said before; aslong as you can decipher the meaning of someones text then the grammar is sufficient.

Grammar exists to help you decipher the meaning of someone's text.

People with poor grammar fail to grasp that, on their way to the dole office.

Its kust exactly the same snobbery they reserve for dialects and accents...to assume a persons intellect and education.
