They dont need foreign monetary aid, but specialised search and rescue people for the areas not flooded would probably helpful, but I expect those to be already out there / on route.

Monetary aid is useful when an area doesn't have the funds to get back on its feet, something which America is not exactly short of.

Exactly, I think they can manage themselves.

I thought Aid was given out to countries that had neither the resources, Infrastructure or the man power to aid themselves or if a country is being overwhelmed buy an incident and requires outside assistance.

giving aid to the Tsunami countries for instance I understand, since most of the countries were (and still are) poor and had no way near the resources to deal with it and the resulting humanitarian crisis. And for example Portugal requested aid to fight the forest fires because they were being overwhelmed.

But i'm sure the States has both the money and the manpower, and if it doesn't have the man power then sending over rescue workers is fine. But no to money, Im sure the funds they recieve in loan payments from all the poor countires they insist of continuing to screw over could fund the relief....

Threads on VNBoards are always stupid moronic and pointless, but this one is something special even by those low standards.

Maybe Teh_Seel has been trolling again?

Prime Minister Blair is an excellent leader and the UK should be glad to have him.

What you may well not realize is that the bulk of US aid that heads out in times of trouble comes from individuals.

as if the individuals can match the US government spending power :p

though to be fair i think the fund is more to help the individual people affected by the disaster that wont get much support from the US government because its an act of god/not right in their system/whatever :p

Much as I feel for them, monetary aid is not what they need.

It's a bit worrying that their plans to protect New Orleans were a bunch of sandbags and locking people in a football stadium. N.O. is a great city and I really hope it gets back on it's feet quickly.

Haha, and the guy locked it because people were calmly and thoroughly disagreeing with him/them? That's pretty fucking lame.

Turambers intentions are a noble cause, I would never accuse anyone trying to help and be charitable as lame. So what if others don't feel obliged to give their money away on this occasion? I still feel as sorry for the people dying and losing their homes in New Orleans as I did for those who suffered the same fate in Asia last Christmas.

Sounds like the Americans are quite happy helping themselves, literally.

Uhm, what? By "the guy" I meant the moderator who was agreeing with the mob of crazy americans - he locked the thread simply because a few people (Turamber and some other guy) had replied in polite disagreement, it seems. (And just about all the other crazy american people had "bowed out" because the thread "took a turn for the worse", which is absolutely ludicrous.)

I hear they're planning a benefit concert already. You can always trust rock stars to get in on the act and show how much they care. I'm just hoping the remaining members of Led Zepplin reunite for it. They could finish with When the Levee Breaks........

Did anyone watch that program last night called "Don't get me started..."

All about the false sense of grief that people feel and the sudden urge to want to give aid - what's it really all about, who are you really doing it for? etc...

Well, what I find really astounding is the reports of guns being fired at rescue copters and boats... WTF is that about!!!
