It just me or is the sole purpose for HR departments existance to provide some form of power and sense of self-worth to completely talentless, mediocre individuals?

That pretty much sums up HR as I have seen them over the years tbh

(Except our current HR Manager who is very nice, very cool and very rare)

i used to work in HR before moving into the IT dept

I can honestly say it was a totally pointless job, all it was day in day out was paper moving. Getting info from 3 depts and sending it to one. company could run perfectly fine without the HR dept tbh

Well, my view on HR, especially in larger companies is time saving.

That paper pushing, "pointless" stuff, usually is something somone has to do sometime anyway.

In a sense, that "pointless" job(which varies according to area i guess), usually is cheaper then the manhours wasted on the job by others.

Taking into consideartion the time it takes to move from one task to other, smoke, coffe, etc.

In game dev, HR is rather a different area. It actually is Human resources and they actually deal with locating, hiring, switching jobs in-house etc.

being that i worked in the job for 3 years i know that it was a pointless job. All the garages are self reliant, they pay their own drivers, sort holidays and everything you could possibly think of.

Our HR dept def dont need 4 member of staff, 1 could do the job. And yes it is pointless stuff that could be done at garage level easily

Well they are not going to admit that they are not needed are they?

Im temping in HR at the moment and I was I was dead.

The guys at the bottom and technical teams are nice. But anyone higher up really just abuses their position similar to a bouncer and completely lack people skills.

Its basically just a passage of communication, its only required when a company gets too big that basic logistics break down. You have a whole team of HR to pass on messages.

Its better money and slightly prefferable to a shop / bar job as im saving to go travelling in Jan. Wish I had held out for a data entry job (just listen to music and work through it). Rather than having to provide a service to ungreatful business areas who treat HR as you describe above.

Can't wait to actually start something I'm interested in next year and use my science degree.

Known universally as Human Remains they have become a pointless department in most companies.

I started work when the rot had just started to set in. I worked for Smiths Industries Aerospace for a few years and saw what was essentially a workers welfare office turn into a Department that cared little and showed it. During one round of redundancies they famously sent security around to march people off site immediately. They had to return the next day to empty lockers and draws of any personal belongings. This was only after they made the poor sods wait outside in the rain for over an hour. Lost all respect for them after that.

Not seen much better at any company I've worked for since.
