my dad dumped me my mum and my baby sister (at the time) in germany with no money, my grandad had to go out there and pic us up. didnt really see him until i was about 16 when he started nagging me about going in the army (he was in it all his life) not spoken to him in a couple of years, couldnt care less.
on the other hand my father figure was my grandad, who sadly passed away a couple of months ago, would give anything for another day with him, an absolute legend in my eyes.

Kinda same boat as Raven
Dad left before I was born
But in fairness it wasn't his fault, he was protestant and my mother is catholic, which didn't go down well with either set of grandmothers here in 16th century N.Ireland
so they split up before my mother knew she was preggers and he went to scotland

granda became my father figure (my stepdad was a grade A fucker)

Granda's a great man, stuck 3 years in a pow camp in germany in WW2 and yet still has faith in humanity
he's funny, irreverant and kind
he's 83 now and still invites me over for a few glasses of bushmills from time to time :)

I never quite realised the extent to which a lot of people have had parents run off during birth/pregnency or childhood.

Does it aspire you people to not make the same mistake yourselves?

Chose the first one, seeing as I have all the respect in the world for my farther. He's done so much for me, and yet asked so little in return. He's always there to give a hand when someone in the family needs something done (seeing as he's a wiz with his fingers), and all he ask for in return, is respect :)

So whenever I get any children of my own, I wish I could be like my farther has been for me.

i had a very strong father figure, just no father :) I wouldnt leave my kids regardless of my upbringing, any self repecting man should look after his kids as much as he can. i dont have any ill feeling towards him, i dont really have any feeling at all. though it was through him that i met my wife so i guess i have something to be thankfull for :)

My father has never been the greatest dad, but he's more like a friend to me, a really nice guy to talk to etc etc. My mom and dad split up when i was about 4, so my mother ended up raising me on her own. While my dad almost never sees
(changed that now tho)
He's truly a person i look up to :p

I grew up with no male influence in my life at all, my father left when he discovered my mother was pregnant.

I do sometimes think about how much I might have missed, but I always come away thinking I have turned out good anyways.

in the same boat as you mucka. Left before I was born. Only thing im gutted about, is the fact he was a football scout for Barca. Maybe if he had stuck around I would be wearing the number 10 shirt for Barca :)

Anyway, hes dead now and I havent missed him. I guess you just get used to not having him around. I class 2 of my Uncles in St Helens as "father figures" anyway and I doubt my real dad could of done a better job.

Mine, well, he had no friends, took the piss out of my mum, drank himself silly everynight of the week, always in a bad mood, horrible atmosphere when around him as we had nothing in common.

Only good thing about him was that he was generous, but the atmosphere got so bad around us that i couldnt actually go up to him and ask him about things, we ended up basicly ignoring eachother for like a year or something whilst my mum was still with him.

Do kind of feel sorry for him now tho (although he brought it on himself), all he had was us before my mum divorced him (after 19 years which she tells me now was hell). Cant see the rest of his life ending up so great, best of luck to him but ever since we left its been a lot better.

I know when i have kids theres noway it would get to a point where they would feel unconfortable talking to me.

"Daddy, I am being bullied at school".
"Sorry son, I r getting my 15th rr10".

Maybe if you didn't play DAoC 24/7 you'd have a chance at parenthood. And no I am not being harsh, I've seen kids being seperated from their fathers because they have a gaming addiction, don't let it happen to you. Just some strong advice, no insult meant.

You have officially turned into a complete prick in my books. What relevance does it give that Arumos has in DAoC to his real life state?. Did you ever think that perhaps he's not at a stage where he's wanting to start a family?.

Though rather he had 15 rr10's than 15 capped thid pwnzor chars, but that's beside the point.

Anyway my dad. I don't know what to say really. I don't know any different. Granted we've had our differences at times when i was becoming acquianted (sp?) with my adolescent hormones but we seldom argue now.

In my eyes he's a nice enough guy but a great father figure in that he's always there and a good provider for my family, something i admire :)

Unfortunatly i lost my mum 2 years ago (at time i was: 16, eldest bro 19, 13 youngest brother) after 8 years of battling cancer and all i can say is that my dads been working so hard to try keep our family going, he works 12 hour shifts as a fireman he so trys to cook for us and he supports me all the way in joining the police, i look at my father as a great man and someone i should live up to, loosing your wife is one thing but having to raise 3boys up on your own is another, i dont know what one to choose all i know is that my father is a great man and is strong in his heart, and would try to do anything to keep us on the right track.

my dad isnt my real dad, but as far as im concerned he is. i must have been maybe 4 or 5 when my biological dad left, and then my mum married the man i consider to be my dad. my real dad i havent had contact with in maybe 8 years or so, use to get a birthday and christamas card, but not anymore...hes a :wanker: as far as im concerned.
my dad as i call him isgreat tbh, probably the most patient person i have ever met, never has a go unless its needed, he advises me and gives me the honest truth about things. he keeps us all in a very comfortble life along with my mum. he tries his best to give us all the best life we can have...and thts all i can ask for tbh.

How's it different to you spending 24/7 making pathetic posts on a forum, trying to be the most annoying twat ever?

Anyway my dad rocks, bit tight, but I'm fine with that! x)

I'm privileged to have the dad I do. Never tried to pretend to be perfect, always admitted his mistakes and showed a lot of patience with me through a lot of things. Even now, he's my major source of knowledge and advice, and still not afraid to tell me when I'm an idiot :worthy:

Ditto the same for mine. Both my parents have been nothing but inspirational.

it is rare that i meet anybody who hates their parents deep down, yes i know dorim does, but every preteen argues with their parents so its no biggie. in some cases i see why they should hate their biological father, but i also see why they have a reason to admire, respect and love their fatherfigure.
even though one has had their differences with their parents they love them, thats my conclusion :D :thumbs up: givf one for that.
