May I answer with an Anne Clark poem?

They f**k you up, your mum and dad
They may not mean to but they do
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you
But they were f**ked up in their turn
By fools in old style hats and coats
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one anothers throats
Man hands on misery to man
It deepens like a coastal shelf
Get out as early as you can
And don't have any kids yourself

I grew up with no male influence in my life at all, my father left when he discovered my mother was pregnant.

I do sometimes think about how much I might have missed, but I always come away thinking I have turned out good anyways.

My dad was the kindest, most decent, and most honourable man I have ever known. I still miss him.

I'm privileged to have the dad I do. Never tried to pretend to be perfect, always admitted his mistakes and showed a lot of patience with me through a lot of things. Even now, he's my major source of knowledge and advice, and still not afraid to tell me when I'm an idiot :worthy:

My Dad > yours in a fight!

couldnt stand the bugger when i was younger as he was a scary 6"5' policeman and strict as fook, but really learnt to appreciate what an amazing person he is in the last 10 years or so.

wonder if this had anything to do with my handcuff/truncheon fetish....

nothing but hate and loathing for my dad, he used to work away the majority of the time on ships doing decompression for divers, then few years ago when he came home he just left again.. fucked off down to africa to live with some bitch. life is better without him anyhow, all he used to do when he was home was whine about everything and blame his shit on other people.

My dad is so nice, kind and never gets angry. He solves the problem with no hurry and he never did anything bad to me.

I love my dad. We just moved away when i was something like 1 year old, and I don't know him much.. And i dont know his family and cousins. Sometimes makes me a bit sad. :(

Didn't vote any of the options, but I like him =) Done lots of stuff for me and the whole family. Sure, everybody has their mistakes, but that doesn't hide the fact that I'm glad I got him and not some other person =)

No words could describe mine. Really, there arn't powerful enough words to describe the man, he was very good at what he did. Brought things to my life i couldn't even imagine. Made every day interesting with bringing something new to the table. Perfect in every sense of the word.

The word being an asshole.

My old man passed on when I was 13. Like Cal, I often wonder just what I missed.

Edit: Apart from growing up as a normal human being instead of a bitter, twisted net-monkey.

Didn't vote either as a suitable option for me wasn't there. You've just pretty much summed up my feelings towards my dad a lot better then I could have. Rep inc :D

Well, my dad was, and is, great with small children. I loved him very much. Tho, he can't handle teenagers all that well. So, I decided to live with my mother ( they moved away from eachother when I was 6 ) at the age of 12.

I like him very much, but more as a person now.

Don't tell us how much you love your Dad. Tell him. Because when he's dead, you'll do anything for 5 minutes more with him to tell him everything you didn't tell him when he was alive.

I like my day on the whole but small things about him annoy me. He has no patience and feels that his policemen status grants him some sort of holy power.

Except for that his pretty cool. A very clever man.

I'd do anything to make it 5 minutes sooner.
